2019: Closing of factory

In the middle of November, 2019 Adidas announced that it is going to close the hi-tech robotic plants in Germany and the USA by April, 2020. Though robots allow to save on labor power and to provide flexible production, they manage too expensive.

In 2016 Adidas started production of footwear at robotic factory Speedfactory in the German city of Ansbakh. In 2017 one more robotic factory near Atlanta (USA) appeared. Adidas opened the similar plants, trying to meet demand for fast delivery of new models and to resist to the wages rise in Asia and to delivery value increase. It was originally going to start universal network of robotic factories. The company did not report why it closes these objects, but it is supposed that they were too expensive and difficult.

The head of department of global transactions of Adidas Martin Shankland told that factories allowed the management to examine the innovation production, but application of the methods received from suppliers will be "more flexible and economic" the solution". Adidas already moved the most part of the plants from Europe to Asia, and now more than 1 million workers, generally from China and Vietnam work at its factories.

It is supposed that Asian factories will use new technologies for fast production of a wide range of products, and not just a sneaker while Adidas will continue to test other production processes on the object of adiLab in Shaynfelda (Germany). The company also announced that it will continue to cooperate with the German company Oechsler, including within production of soles for the elastic Boost sneakers and advanced soles received using 3D - printing.[1]
