Azure IoT Edge

Product
The name of the base system (platform): Microsoft Azure
Developers: Microsoft
Date of the premiere of the system: June, 2018
Technology: Internet of Things of Internet of Things (IoT)

Azure IoT Edge is a cloud platform for Internet of Things. Thanks to this technology of a possibility of cloud computing are distributed between IoT-infrastructure and  end devices. Azure IoT Edge allows to unroll and start Azure services, solution AI and custom logical networks on the IoT-equipment.

2018: Public start

On June 27, 2018 the Microsoft company made global start of Azure IoT Edge more than a year later after a release of its preliminary version. The platform got support of new devices, services of management and tools for developers in ready option.

According to the director of Azure IoT Sam George, from the moment of the beginning of testing of Azure IoT Edge a large number of examples of effective use of "smart" cloud computing on IoT-devices in production workshops, on farms, etc. is mentioned.

Now devices can use in real time data — for example if it is necessary to distinguish a crack in a pipe from height of bird's flight or to predict a hardware failure before it occurs — George said.

Algorithms of artificial intelligence Custom Vision entering into a set of services Azure Cognitive Services began to work at the Azure IoT Edge platform that will allow different "smart" devices, from cameras and drones to industrial equipment, to perform analytical operations by own means without the need for connection to a cloud.

Microsoft promises fast emergence of Azure IoT Edge more Azure Cognitive services capable to work directly on devices.

Besides, Microsoft increased quantity of supported languages of programming in tool kits for developers and added new features for Visual Studio Code. Developers will be able to create, test and debug the modules Azure IoT Edge through the Visual Studio and to cooperate with other commands using a cloud solution of Visual Studio Team Services.[1]
