For March, 2019 the multiservice Cisco ASR 1001-X router, at the compact sizes in 1RU, has capacity in 10gb/with transit traffic (8gb/with the encoded IPsec), wide functionality — routing, terming of subscribers (BRAS), NAT/CG-NAT, Firewall, DPI (NBARv2), Radius, Flexible Netflow (v.5/v.9/ACL), etc.

2013: Routers of the ASR 1000 family

The routers of the ASR 1000 family (Aggregated Service Router is the router of the aggregated services) which replaced devices of the previous generation of Cisco 7200 appeared in the market in 2008 and at once set a number of industry records. They also affected architecture of many other Cisco routers developed later and got two awards Cisco Pioneer Technology Award (are annually awarded to the best Cisco groups for development of the innovation products and technologies).

ASR 1000 routers were developed within five years. 250 million US dollars were spent for their creation. Today in the world more than 75 thousand such devices which brought the companies of 3 billion dollars are installed.

The models ASR 1001, ASR 1002, ASR 1004, ASR 1006, ASR 1013 and the new ASR 1002-x model with the software, licensed on a formula "pay-as-you-grow" enter into family of ASR 1000 routers (with payment only for the used resources). This platform perfectly is suitable for large enterprises and public institutions, suppliers of managed services and telecom operators.

The QFP processor (Quantum Flow Processor) used in ASR 1000 routers became the first completely integrated and programmable processor in the industry, capable at the same time to process 160 flows. Its architecture considerably reduces terms of development of new features.

So far more than 2500 functions are developed for the ASR platform. For this reason the QFP processor began to be used also in other products Cisco, for example, on the ASR 9000 platform.

The processor of the second generation of RP2 installed on the ASR 1000 platform for processing of routes was the first in many respects too. He became the first product Cisco capable to start the Cisco IOS operating system on the Intel platform, the first began to support the 64-bit IOS operating system and for the first time gave the chance to the router to support tens of millions of routes with addressing of IPv4 and IPv6.

The following built-in services can work at the ASR 1000 platform at the same time: network screen, system of IP security, virtual private networks (VPN), management tools users and functions of deep inspection of packets.

The reliable modular design of the opratsionny IOS XE system allows to update the software without shutdown of the router. This function is convenient for any customer, but is especially useful to the operators working in the round-the-clock mode without days off. Besides, the modular design of the operating system allows the router to save working capacity even in case of refusal or restart of one of system programs.

The IOS XE operating system supports more than 2,500 functions and also Cable-Next Generation works at a number of platforms of Cisco, such as ISR 4400, ASR 900, ASR 9000 (for line cards).
