2014: IBM opens 12 new DPCs of SoftLayer

On December 17, 2014 IBM announced 25 percent expansion of number of the data centers servicing cloud infrastructure. Thus, the American corporation continued to strengthen cloud business which is for it one of the most dynamic.

On one data processing center IBM opened in Frankfurt, Mexico City and Tokyo. Besides, the producer announced start of nine platforms of cloud computing in the territory of Australia, France, Japan, Singapore, Holland and the USA together with global operator of data centers Equinix.

Within the agreement with Equinix all cloud infrastructure of SoftLayer will be connected to the Equinix Cloud Exchange platform that will provide to corporate customers secure, steady and effective access to public clouds.

After start of 12 new data centers of SoftLayer their quantity reached 49 that is nine DPCs more, than IBM planned by the end of 2014.

"We really had a good year. We can designate it outstanding for our cloud business" — Angel Luiz Diaz, the vice president of IBM who is responsible in the company for the cloud direction in an interview to Reuters agency noted.[1]

From the middle of 2013 until the end of the 2014th the number of cloud data centers of IBM grew in a quadruple size. The company actively opened platforms in the conditions of high demand on Internet services, the growing requirements from corporate clients (their number in 2013 doubled, up to 20 thousand) and tough legislative arrangements worldwide in many countries where it is authorized to store data only on those servers that are in the territory of the state.

For the first nine months 2014 cloud revenues of IBM grew by 50% that does this business by one of the most high-growth for the company. However it occupies only a small share in total revenue of "the blue giant" which size in 2014 analysts predict at the level of $94 billion. In 2015 IBM is going to earn at least $7 billion from cloud computing.
