Wrong Way Alert is an alerting system about departure on the band intended for oncoming traffic.

On August 6, 2018 the Ford company provided the system of warning of Wrong Way Alert of departure on the band intended for oncoming traffic.

The accidents connected with departure of the car on an oncoming lane especially often come to an end with serious injuries or death of people, at frontal collision energy of two cars is summed up. Departure on "oncoming traffic lane" became the reason approximately of each 10 road accidents, in them every fourth of the victims of car accidents perishes approximately, explained in Ford of premises of creation of the solution.

In a situation when the driver passes between two signs "journey is prohibited" set on the access road of the highway, the Wrong Way Alert system publishes a sound signal and brings the image of the sign prohibiting journey to the meter panel.

At the heart of an alerting system about departure on the band intended for oncoming traffic the sensing technology of road signs which is already applied on Ford also lies information on location of the car provided by the onboard navigation system is considered. The camera located behind a windshield directed forward will recognize important road signs (for example, restrictions of speed) at the rate of following of the car and transfers them to the meter panel or the projected display. In a situation when the driver passes between two signs "journey is prohibited" set on the access road of the highway, the Wrong Way Alert system publishes a sound signal and brings to the meter panel the image of the sign prohibiting journey and also the text message with the offer to check correctness of the direction of the movement.

Ford tested technology on the proving ground in Lommel (Belgium), using the signs "journey is prohibited" set on access roads. To check correctness of system operation on outcomes of a different configuration, the camera of a system was mounted in front of the monitor of the computer showing the virtual roads created using real data of GPS.

Ford Focus became the first carrier of the Wrong Way Alert system.
