HP Helion is a set of software products on the OpenStack platform for satisfaction of requirements of the large companies for cloud solutions.

On May 6, 2014 the Hewlett Packard company announced a release of several "cloud" technological solutions united in a portfolio - HP Helion.

HP Helion OpenStack

HP Helion OpenStack is a product line on the basis of OpenStack technology. Products are provided, tested and supported by HP company. HP Helion OpenStack Community Edition is provided free of charge and is available since May 6, 2014. A system is created for experimental installations, pilot deployments and basic production loads. The improved commercial version meeting requirements of the large companies and service providers is expected in several months.

There was a version of HP of Helion OpenStack 1.1

On March 13, 2015 HP announced the output of HP Helion OpenStack 1.1.

The HP solution of Helion OpenStack 1.1 - infrastructure a basis for HP Helion Development Platform. In the version of HP Helion OpenStack 1.1 are implemented:

  • Automatic protection and convenient setup
    • More flexible configuration of external sources of authentication of users in each domain
    • the Improved control thanks to the centralized collecting of logs and integration with HP ArcSight

    • It is based on OpenStack Juno release

  • The improved possibilities of software-defined storage

  • The improved management of lifecycle: collecting of metrics on the basis of Ceilometer allows to estimate resource consumption volume

The product of HP of Helion OpenStack 1.1 is available to acquisition.

HP Helion Development Platform

HP Helion Development Platform - PaaS the solution on the platform open source Cloud Foundry. On its basis specialists of IT departments and developers can quickly create and unroll applications and manage them. The preliminary version of the platform is expected in 2014.

The release of HP of Helion Development Platform 1.1 is updated

On March 13, 2015 the HP company announced readiness of release of the version of HP of Helion Development Platform 1.1.

The product is intended for the accelerated development and deployment of cloud applicaions.

The HP solution of Helion Development Platform is based on Cloud Foundry and completely integrated with HP Helion OpenStack. It is the open compatible platform which helps to develop applications and to transfer them between private and public clouds. The version of HP of Helion Development 1.1 allows IT departments and to developers to develop applications quicker and to manage this process without excess efforts.

Among improvements:

  • More convenient administration for IT specialists
    • the Improved management of users
    • Considerable improvement of collecting of logs, including more reliable and effective log shipping using Websocket and registration of failures in creation of containers
    • Additional panels of monitoring for informing on use of quotas on the organizations and available corrections of a system

  • Rollback of applications and version control: fast rollback of applications to the previous versions

HP OpenStack Technology Indemnification Program

HP OpenStack Technology Indemnification Program is the protection program of the customers of HP using the HP OpenStack code from claims concerning the patent infringement, copyright and intellectual property rights connected with use only of the OpenStack code or in combination with the Linuxprogramma code [1].

OpenStack Professional Services

OpenStack Professional Services is the new services of planning, implementation and operation of cloud solutions provided by consultants and HP developers.


Access to services of HP of Helion OpenStack will be provided through a partner network of the company worldwide and also in DPC of HP.

Helion OpenStack Professional HP services are available

On October 2, 2014 announced HP availability of a packet of professional services on the OpenStack platform - HP Helion OpenStack Professional Services.

Services are provided by a team of experienced architects and specialists of the company in cloud computing, with assistance of the engineers servicing one of world's largest public "clouds", created on OpenStack technology — HP Helion Public Cloud.

Packet of HP of Helion OpenStack Professional Services - a part of a portfolio of Helion Professional Services. In its structure of service:

  • Preliminary expert examination of OpenStack technology:
    • development of strategy of achievement of business objectives,
    • determination of model of deployment (the private, managed, public cloud or the hybrid environment) and providing recommendations for experimental, preproduction and production environments;

  • Design and implementation of OpenStack:
    • design of cloud infrastructure,
    • transfer of workloads and pilot projects in a cloud or integration of OpenStack on preproduction Wednesday for testing;

HP Helion OpenStack will support VMware

On October 3, 2014 HP and VMware announced the future support of implementations of software-defined DPCs and hybrid "clouds" quickly and at rather low costs.

Within this initiative of the company reported: the distribution kit of HP Helion OpenStack will support technologies of virtualization of VMware of the enterprise level.

2015

Announced HP development of Helion Managed Virtual Private Cloud (VPC)

On February 18, 2015 the HP company announced expansion of a portfolio of configurations for workloads, available as a part of the Helion Managed Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) HP platform.

New solutions make transition to cloud computing easier more conveniently.

For February 18, 2015 the division of the company releases seven ready packets "infrastructure as service" for different workloads, from small (for example, application development and low-productive exchange of multimedia data) to the loadings of the corporate level supporting large-scale ERP platforms.

New configurations provide more exact compliance of IT infrastructure to workloads and help to optimize consumption and cost of IT resources.

Within the HP solution of Helion Managed VPC four configurations on the basis of virtual servers are available to small workloads of a corporate class and three configurations on the basis of physical servers for the important production tasks requiring the selected capacities. These configurations provide a possibility of upgrade of applications, help to cut down operating costs, provide rapid implementation of cloud services and also allow to use consulting services and services for conversion of workloads.

New solutions are intended for a number of widespread workloads:

  • Application development, printing of files, non-productive transactions and quality control

  • E-mail placed with provider and a CRM system of a corporate class

  • Oracle C/X, collecting and data analysis, organization of storages


Availability

HP solutions of Helion Managed VPC can be purchased in 24 countries on five continents. The initial cost of virtual configurations is $76 a month for the Bare Metal configuration and to $496 a month for the Virtualized Enterprise configuration.

Physical configurations are offered at the price from $800 a month for 8-core physical servers and to $1 thousand a month for the Physical Enterprise configuration.

Helion Business Applications for Oracle manages workloads in a cloud

On March 6, 2015 HP announced the solution Helion Business Applications for Oracle created as means for transfer of corporate workloads of Oracle in a cloud and management by them.

The packet of HP of Helion Business Applications for Oracle helps to transform, unroll and operate Oracle applications on the Helion Managed Cloud HP platforms. This solution provides support of different applications, including absolutely new, regular updating of applications.

Helion Business Applications for Oracle components and its opportunities:

  • consulting services on planning of deployment of cloud infrastructure

  • flexible delivery of applications

  • ready platform and architecture

HP Helion OpenStack 2.0

On October 29, 2015 at the forum OpenStack Summit 2015 the HP company submitted version 2.0 of a software platform of Helion OpenStack for creation of hybrid clouds on the basis of open OpenStack HP technologies[2].

By HP Helion OpenStack 2.0 it is focused on the corporate customers who are going to transfer to a business application cloud.

Improvements are presented in this version of HP of Helion OpenStack:

  • simple providing infrastructure and possibility of improvement of scaling of already unrolled infrastructure without decrease in its availability;
  • software updating of all cloud environment without stopping its works;
  • the continuous management of program patches allowing to install patches of a security system and software updating without violation of normal operation of applications;
  • user-friendly interface of the system administrator with opportunities of registration and monitoring of events on all cloud;
  • flexible configuration of network parameters of a cloud environment for connection to the operating IT infrastructure of the enterprise;
  • the organization of the software-defined networks covering several data centers using technologies of HP Distributed Cloud Networking (DCN) and the platform of network virtualization Virtualized Services Platform of Nuage Networks company;
  • compliance to standards of API interfaces of OpenStack for ensuring compatibility with different clouds and possibilities of use of the connected modules plug-in of other developers.
