On September 24, 2019, iPadOS went public. The operating system can be installed on iPad Air 2 and older, iPad Pro, iPad 5th and later generation, as well as iPad mini 4 and older.

The first OS for the iPad has been released. It brings tablets closer to computers

However, the platform has received many features that make tablets closer to computers than to smartphones. For example, there is advanced multitasking, launching one application in two windows, changing and downloading new fonts, as well as widgets on the home screen, which can be displayed along with regular program icons.

The Safari browser in iPadOS automatically opens not a mobile, but a full version of websites, scaled with the resolution of the iPad display and optimized for touch. In addition, Safari has a built-in download manager, support for 30 new keyboard shortcuts and improved tab management.

According to Apple, with the release of iPadOS, editing text on the iPad has become much easier and faster. The accuracy and speed have become even higher, you can select text by simply swiping, and new gestures allow you to cut, copy, paste text or cancel the previous action.

Despite the fact that the tablet screen is much larger than on smartphones, Apple has provided for the ability to detach the keyboard and reduce its size.

To check whether iPadOS can be installed on a tablet, users need to go to Settings → Basic → Software Update, and then click the Download and Install link. For those who have previously installed the beta version of the "operating system," it will need to be removed and iPadOS downloaded.[2]

Tools  for creating and deleting objects, color palettes, shapes, a new tool for erasing part of the stroke by pixels, and a ruler for drawing straight lines are available on the toolbar.

iPadOS has received a completely new home screen, in one part of which widgets can be located (the same as in the "Notification Center"), in the other - application icons. The Files app has become more like Finder. Here it even became possible to create Zip archives. The Safari browser can now work directly with Google Docs documents.

System user fonts can be installed in the OS.  BApp Store will be available fonts from designer stores and large companies such as Adobe, DynaComware, etc.

The operating system is equipped with a new "floating" keyboard, which saves space on the display and supports the QuickPath function. Apple claims that typing with one hand becomes more convenient,  and there is more room for applications. The keyboard is turned on with a finger gesture and can be dragged anywhere on the display.

The iPadOS beta is available to developers starting June 3, 2019. The final version of the platform will be released in the fall.[3]
