Content

  • Intel IoT Platform unifies technologies of connection and ensuring protection for simpler implementation of the concept of Internet of Things and creates a reliable basis of devices for data transmission in cloud environments.
  • Intel adjusts strategic relationship with Accenture Booz Allen Hamilton Capgemini Dell HCL NTT DATA SAP, Tata Consultancy and Wipro for the purpose of development and deployment of solutions on the basis of Intel IoT Platform.

2014

On December 9, 2014 Intel provided Intel IoT Platform — the complex basic model designed to unify and simplify possibilities for connection and security of Internet of Things. Intel also showed the integrated hardware and software solutions based on this platform and stated establishing communications with the extending ecosystem of system integrators that it will allow to accelerate implementation of this concept.

Developments and working contacts will help solution providers to pass from pilot projects to widespread introduction on the basis of conventional components which have unlimited opportunities for adaptation according to specific needs. The collected data will be transformed more quickly to constructive information in order that certain users and the companies could receive practical to advantages.

"Horizontal" approach to Internet of Things

Intel IoT Platform allows to bring quicker to the market the innovative solutions, reducing their excess complexity, and more quickly to provide analytical information, creating a basis of how devices are connected and transfer data to cloud environments.

"With release of this platform we expand our product family for Internet of Things out of limits only of hardware components, in addition developing our integrated solutions which will allow solution providers to take all advantage of this concept, – Doug Davis, the vice president and the head of department of Internet of Things Group of Intel corporation told. – Internet of Things represents a high-growth segment of the market which faces problems of insufficient scalability. Due to simplification of development process and simplification of implementation of new solutions which allow to satisfy requirements of the market we accelerate development of innovations".

Development of an ecosystem of Internet of Things

Internet of Things has high potential for development of economy and implementation of social changes, but for this purpose the companies should combine the efforts. Scaling of this concept requires a powerful ecosystem. With respect thereto Intel announced release of new solutions and establishment of new partner relations. Accenture *, Booz Allen Hamilton *, Capgemini *, Dell *, HCL *, NTT DATA *, SAP *, Tata Consultancy *, Wipro * and other companies will combine efforts with Intel to develop and deploy solutions using components on the basis of Intel IoT Platform. These development will create a reliable basis for development of Internet of Things and will allow developers to be engaged in design of solutions for satisfaction of specific needs of customers.

Integrated hardware and the software

Intel also submits the release schedule hardware and the software for support of Intel IoT Platform. The plan includes terminal units and hardware solutions for cloud environments, the software for management of the application programming interface and creation of services, the solution for connection of peripheral devices to cloud environments, the program for analytics and a complete lineup of scalable processors based on architecture of Intel. Security is also an important part of the output plan, beginning with specialized solutions for protection, finishing with the safety features integrated into hardware and the software.

Intel develops and optimizes the output plan for support of the components developed by participants of an ecosystem for the solution of the main problems which solution providers when implementing the concept of Internet of Things, including operational compatibility, security and connectivities face.

Developments of Intel include the following:

  • Wind River Edge Management System offers enhanced capabilities for connection in cloud environments for simplification of accomplishment of the following tasks: setup of a configuration of devices, transfer of files, collecting and data analysis. Previously integrated technology stack allows customers to create quickly the solutions adapted for specific industries and to integrate separate corporate IT systems using the application programming interface. The cloud cross-platform software includes the built-in devices and cloud environments for reduction of time to market and reduction of total cost of ownership.
  • Development of Intel IoT Gateway includes the Wind River Edge Management System system using a software agent for operational deployment and control of the equipment throughout all system lifecycle. Besides, gateways support higher speed of work, a possibility of use of inexpensive memory and broader set of options of communication. Products of Intel IoT Gateway are at the moment offered by 7 ODM companies. At the beginning of 2015 13 more companies will present the offers at the market.
  • Intel Security announced release of a system of protection of Enhanced Security for Intel IoT Gateway for the purpose of support of Intel IoT Platform. Previously checked solution provides expanded functions of protection for gateways.
  • Intel Security also announced that the Enhanced Privacy Identity (EPID) technology will be used by other producers of semiconductor products. EPID provides integrity at the hardware level and is included in the ISO standards and TCG. The technology allows other devices to be connected in a protect mode to the Intel IoT Platform platform.
  • The solution Intel API and Traffic Management uses developments of Intel Mashery for creation of components which will simplify creation of new programs. Users of Intel IoT Platform can use Intel Mashery API management tools for creation of application programming interfaces.

2015: Intel issued the reference platform of Internet of Things

On November 2, 2015 Intel announced release reference architecture of Intel IoT Platform and equipment rooms and software products within the concept on creation of one of the most complete sentences in the market of Internet of Things.

As a part of the platform two reference architecture and a broad set of products of Intel and an ecosystem of corporation which are intended to expand the capacity of Internet of Things. The corporation provided the Intel processors Quark for Internet of Things, free and simple operating systems with a packet of cloud solutions of Wind River company and enhanced analytical capabilities. Developments are intended for creation and protection of "smart" solutions with enhanced network capabilities.

The reference architecture of Intel IoT Platform for "smart" things with enhanced network capabilities is focused on that the wide ecosystem could develop, protect and integrate "smart" things easily. The platform includes ready action plans for more operational output to the market of the innovative solutions due to elimination of excess complexity and determination of how "smart" solutions will be connected and exchange the checked data in the protected cloud environments.

SAP became the first company which announced decisions on the Intel IoT Platform platform.  The company will develop corporate complete solutions for Internet of Things using the Intel platform and own SAP HANA Cloud Platform platform.
