2017: Announcement

On December 10, 2017 the LG Electronics company announced creation of technology of cellular communication of fourth generation (LTE) for unmanned vehicles. The project received the name LTE V2X.

The idea of development consists in use of high-speed 4G-networks for interaction of cars among themselves (vehicle-to-vehicle, V2V), machines with people (V2P, vehicle-to-person) and with city infrastructure (V2I, vehicle-to-infrastructure). Thanks to such communications it is possible to implement opportunities in order that vehicles independently went on public roads.

LG Electronics hopes that LTE V2X will become the industry standard for automobile communication thanks to which machines with auto pilots will be able to get less into accident during driving on city streets.

Testing of V2X LTE technology

During the presentation the company showed how the car equipped with new technology could notify quickly the driver on sudden braking ahead of the going vehicle. Besides, a system issued warning of a roadwork along the line of the machine and offered ways of a detour.

Through LTE V2X can send messages the people who are driving cars nearby — in a radius of several hundred meters. It is noted that the efficiency of mailing of such notifications does not depend on weather conditions. At the same time V2X LTE sensors can be installed on any passenger and lorries.

We will make additional efforts for further development of technologies of driving without driver for commercialization of LTE V2X — the representative of LG Electronics whose words are cited by the news agency Yonhap says. — Using the last technologies, we will take the lead of development of V2X technologies based on networks of fifth generation (5G) which are necessary for production of the cars connected to network.[1]
