2016: StorageGRID Webscale

On November 1, 2016 the Netapp company announced StorageGRID Webscale release - technology of object data storage of web applications.

The product is focused on storage and management of big data sets in a uniform global namespace in hybrid clouds.

Architecture of StorageGRID, (2015)

As a part of the version the complete solution stack integrated and distributed by Netapp. The technology provides the improved data protection by means of support of version control for S3, the interface is processed, the technology of simulation of results of change the politician of data storage for billions of objects is included.

2012: NetApp StorageGRID 9.0

The Netapp StorageGRID 9.0 system together with E-Series allows partners to create big storage systems, providing at the same time the reliable and not limited by time frames access to them.

The organizations daily create information petabytes, from client data to medical documents. Creation, management, storage and gaining access to information from any place in the world involves considerable problems, including the slowed-down reaction to adoption of operational solutions, reduced level of the competition and the raised capital costs. In all fields of activity, including health care, financial services and mass media, the safe and simple data access is necessary for the organizations.

For the solution of these problems NetApp announced in the summer of 2012 release of the software of StorageGRID 9.0 which will allow the organizations to adapt to working conditions with the increased amounts of data, to manage content of large volumes, to lower costs and also to provide the high level of services in providing information. NetApp StorageGRID together with the platform of data storage NetApp E-Series is developed for management of petabytes of the data which are stored in the distributed repositories including images, video and also documentation of the enterprises and service providers. With StorageGRID release 9.0 NetApp become the first of the largest companies providing services in data storage area which supports the open standard of a control interface of cloud data (CDMI). This standard provides existence of the protocol for automation, administration and gaining access to cloud DWH. The long-term experience of cooperation of Netapp with the technology partners and providing the corresponding standards allow NetApp to support a set of protocols, including NFS, SIFS, RESTful, HTTP, and now and CDMI.

"As in the modern digital world volumes and quantity of data types constantly increase, such technologies as CDMI, help our clients to manage not only growth of amounts of data, but also loads of devices for ensuring the greatest efficiency in work and deeper understanding of the distributed working environments" — Rich Clifton, the senior vice president, department of solutions and integration tools of Netapp company claims.

NetApp StorageGRID together with E-Series forms a basis of the solution Netapp Distributed Content Repository capable to provide storage of billions of records with a capacity of hundreds petabyte placed on hundreds of carriers within single name space. NetApp E-Series provides flexibility, high performance and high density of storage that is ideal for the applications using large volumes of data. The solution Netapp Distributed Content Repository which cornerstone StorageGRID and E-Series technologies are supports use of the unified storage system for data with a possibility of gain granular the politician of storage using metadata in different locations. The organizations can receive benefit from use of reliable, powerful and long-lasting DWH with uninterrupted and timely access to necessary data.

NetApp and Iron Mountain allow the organizations of health care to reduce costs for use of Internet technologies and to get access to the most important data of patients.

Presently, when huge information volumes became a norm, gaining access to necessary clinical information in due time is one of pressing problems which the health care faces. The medical organizations try to find a method as quickly and without loss of amount of data to transfer medical images and other digital content, following at the same time rules of privacy policy, the requirement of regulating authorities and providing data access, available on remote carriers. Many of these service providers select Iron Mountain, the partner of Netapp who uses technology of Netapp for providing clinics with long-term and uninterrupted data access and also for consolidation of various data sources in a unified cloud environment.

"Our clients from health sector ask us to help them with providing with resources for storage of the increasing amounts of data and also with management of long-term storage and the organization of access to medical images — Ken Rubin, the senior vice president and the general manager, health sector, Iron Mountain Incorporated says. — To solve these problems, we offer managed services which provide double benefit: cost management on storage with simultaneous improvement of functions of disaster recovery. Use of StorageGRID and E-Series technologies gives the chance to provide our clients with economic services of long-term storage who allow not to make a compromise, selecting either the high level of security, or providing continued and online access to data".

Specific Features Today's release of StorageGRID 9.0 allows to use the solution Netapp Distributed Content Repository vsleduyushchy cases:

  • Creation of scalable multivendor repositories with support of the SNIA CDMI standard which promotes creation, gaining access, management and removal of data from a cloud.
  • The simplified gaining access to data of the enterprise at storage of hundreds petabyte and billions of data sets in a uniform logical container.
  • Reduced requirements to a free space in a data processing center and ensuring the data compression density, best in the industry.
  • Cost reduction by means of use of technologies of storage of volume and unstructured data.
  • Increase in efficiency of business operations by means of use of scalable multinodal repositories.
