2015: Ex-employee's revelations: Oracle imposes to clients cloud products

In July, 2015 it became known that Oracle imposes sales of cloud products even to those companies which do not need these solutions and do not want to purchase them. Told journalists its former employee Craig Guarente about aggressive policy of the American company.

According to him, clients of Oracle, persons interested to make changes to the contract (for example, to increase number of users of licenses or to add new services), face so-called audit of the agreement within which the American corporation can make a complaint on non-performance of terms of agreement and force to purchase its commercial cloud products as a punishment measure.

Oracle imposes sales of cloud products even to those companies which do not need these solutions and do not want to purchase them

In case of refusal the client risks to lose an opportunity to use software of Oracle within 30 days. In many cases transition from solutions of the company to others is very problematic as on it years can leave. So the customer is forced to follow conditions of vendor.

It is noted that audit of any actions inappropriate to the set requirements can cause discontent of Oracle. As a result the producer forces the guilty companies to sign long-term contracts on the products Oracle Cloud even if the client does not work with cloud services and does not need them.

According to Guarente, sales managers of Oracle receive for such imposed contracts seven times higher assignments in comparison with other products. Oracle did not begin to deny the similar scheme of awarding, but at the same time refrained from informative comments, having confined to the following phrase: "We provide the systems of incentive awards".

Craig Guarente worked in Oracle within 16 years, during this time it climbed a career ladder to the global vice president who was responsible for contracts, business methods and questions of audit. In 2011 it founded Palisade Compliance company which renders advisory services in the field of management of program assets of Oracle.

According to Guarente, till 2015 Oracle did not show high activity regarding imposing of cloud products. In 2015 the company already several times used this sales method, declared its former high-ranking employee, without having specified names of clients which were forced to be signed for cloud proposals of the producer.[1]

Action for cloud clients of SAP: the licenses Oracle Cloud for a year free of charge

In October, 2013 it became known of carrying out Oracle of a special action within which upon transition to the software (S) of Oracle the discount in the amount of annual license payments is provided to the former clients of SAP Business ByDesign.

The offer is relevant for those users who intend to use the solution Oracle ERP Cloud not less than three years and pay use of the solution for the three-year period, then the discount in the amount of the amount of a year subscription is applied to them.

However, the attractive offer of Oracle contains also some exceptions listed on the web page of the stock in small print. So, the companies occupied in the field of IT services, providing services of integration or providing special trainings will not be able to use a discount.

The three-year usage contract Oracle ERP Cloud is "obligatory and indissoluble", and it means that those customers who for one reason or another after time will want to replace the solution with competing will fall into quite difficult situation or at all to refuse it.

It is interesting that recently also special programs of "migration" for the former clients of ByDesign offered vendors of NetSuite and Kenandy. Such marketing enthusiasm is explained by the fact that in the fall of 2013 SAP announced curtailment of further work on a cloud solution of ByDesign. And though the German company assured that it will continue to support and to actively advance the solution in full, after all it means that no significant updates of the solution in the future are expected.

According to the representative of SAPVishal Sikka, critical Business ByDesign update after all will continue to be released, and a command of a product it will be necessary to work for rendering to technical support to users the current version. For October, 2013 the number of clients of ByDesign made 1.1 thousand. At start of the SAP solution intended to connect 10 thousand clients by 2010.
