In 2017, Oracle presented its vision of an autonomous enterprise, announcing an autonomous database. Then the company announced that it would expand autonomous capabilities to the entire portfolio of PaaS services. In keeping with this promise, Oracle recently provided a number of stand-alone platform services, including Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse Cloud, Oracle Analytics Cloud, Oracle Integration Cloud, and Oracle Visual Builder. After announcing the availability of the next set of standalone services, Oracle continues to implement plans. In 2018, the corporation plans to provide even more autonomous capabilities focused on blockchain, security and IT management, as well as supporting additional database workloads, including OLTP and NoSQL.

Add standalone PaaS services

On March 2, 2018, Oracle introduced standalone PaaS services Oracle Cloud Platform Autonomous Services in addition to Oracle Autonomous Database.

The autonomy features are integrated into the entire cloudy Oracle Cloud Platform. The standalone Oracle Autonomous Database uses advanced artificial intelligence technologies machine learning to eliminate routine human labor, eliminate human errors and manually configure, provides unprecedented availability, high performance and security at a much lower cost. Numerous standalone database services for a specific type of workload, including Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse Cloud Service for analytics, Oracle Autonomous Database OLTP for transactional and mixed workloads, and Oracle Autonomous NoSQL Database for fast and large read and write operations, will be available in 2018.

In addition to Oracle Autonomous Database services, Oracle Cloud Platform's standalone capabilities for application development, mobile devices and bots, integration, analytics, security and IT management are scheduled for release in the first half of calendar year 2018. All Oracle Cloud Platform services take advantage of common battery life, including:

Adding Big Data Cloud Services

On October 12, 2017, Oracle announced the expansion of the Oracle Big Data Platform Cloud service list. Big data projects are difficult to implement because of their complexity, lack of skills and knowledge to coordinate all phases of the project. To help customers solve these problems and simplify management of the entire big data lifecycle, Oracle has offered big data services integrated into Oracle Cloud Platform.

These cloud services provide customers with the critical capabilities they need for big data projects, simplify and accelerate data-driven business results, and facilitate the use of artificial intelligence in applications and services[2].

Oracle introduced Oracle Analytics Cloud, Data Lake Edition, which unleashes the potential of scalable big data analytics in Oracle Big Data Cloud using Apache Spark. With Oracle Analytics Cloud, Data Lake, any analyst can now explore all the data in the data lake, combine it with their own, corporate or external sources to discover the facts, quickly improve to enrich this data and save it by creating Data flow, which is executed on a scalable platform. The built-in fast analytics layer with Oracle Essbase and Oracle Database Cloud stores the resulting data, providing fast interactive visualization and another level of data access. The platform further extends analytics by providing machine learning-based recommendations for data enrichment and visualization.

Oracle Analytics Cloud, Data Lake Edition provides automatic creation of machine learning models that can be used as built-in models for intelligent data enrichment when creating and executing Data Flow. In addition, analysts can use hundreds of Oracle Advanced Analytics and Spark features to further enrich their data and Data Flow.

Cloudy Oracle Analytics Cloud services are integrated with Oracle Integration Cloud and Oracle Big Data Cloud.

Oracle has built three machine learning and analytics tools into Oracle Big Data Cloud that minimize data movement and accelerate results. Oracle R Advanced Analytics for Hadoop accelerates algorithms available in the SparkMLlib library up to 32 times. GPU support for Apache Spark and TensorFlow further accelerates algorithms for deep analytics and machine learning. Oracle Big Data Spatial and Graph enables customers to identify dependencies and relationships in customer, organization, and asset data, and enrich multi-structure data with geolocation information.

Oracle Big Data Cloud includes Oracle Big Data Connectors to quickly and easily move data between Oracle Database and data lakes. In addition, Oracle Event Hub Cloud provides a fully automated way to store streaming data in Oracle Storage Cloud and integrates with the Oracle Data Integration Platform Cloud, helping you create data lakes in the cloud easier and cheaper than ever before.

Oracle announced two services: Oracle Graph Cloud Service - a fully managed, scalable graphics database and an analytical engine with integrated data development and visualization tools. Oracle NoSQL Database Cloud Service is the only fully managed NoSQL database that enables customers to store their data in the Oracle cloud or in their own data center.

Oracle announced the release of Oracle Data Integration Platform Cloud Service, which provides unified, comprehensive enterprise-class tools for data integration and ETL. The service has push-down functions for streaming and batch loading data from all data sources and applications, not only Oracle.

A wide range of data cleansing, data cataloging, and metadata management solutions are supported to ensure proper data utilization and compliance.

Oracle Stream Analytics is enhanced to work directly with Oracle Cloud Platform. Oracle Stream Analytics is based on key big data technologies such as Apache Kafka and Apache Spark, and is integrated with Oracle Big Data Cloud and Oracle Event Hub Cloud.

Oracle Cloud Platform Extensions

On January 25, 2017, Oracle introduced Oracle Cloud Platform extensions that increase its appeal to customers moving critical business applications to the cloud.

Oracle announced two options:

Both technologies are implemented on the same IaaS platform.

Oracle Cloud Platform delivers differentiated database performance at every level of scalability and provides deeply integrated IaaS capabilities for organizations of all sizes, making it easier for them to develop, test, and deploy mission-critical business applications in the cloud.

Oracle introduced competitive services Amazon Web Services

Oracle announced new enterprise cloud products, saying they are designed to compete directly with Amazon solutions

"We
can now declare that cloud services are complete. After today's announcement, you will be able to transfer all your applications from the data center to the Oracle cloud, "said Larry Ellison, founder and chairman of the board of directors of the American corporation.

According to him, Oracle is ready for price competition with Amazon, since Oracle Cloud Platform is a cheaper alternative to Amazon Web Services. As an example, Ellison cited the service for storing archived copies of Amazon Glacier: a similar Oracle Archive Storage Cloud product costs 10 times cheaper.

"Oracle is the only company on the planet that can provide a complete integrated set of standardized services for each level of the cloud ecosystem," Larry Ellison said.

According to Reuters, Oracle's cloud business is fast-growing, but its volume is less than that of competitors. According to the results of fiscal year 2015, which ended on May 31, 2015, Oracle earned about $2.3 billion on cloud products, which is a third more than a year earlier. Amazon and Microsoft estimate similar revenue for the year at about $6.3 billion for each of these companies.[4]
