2019: Announcement

On December 11, 2019 Intel provided the first in the range lidar. Such mini-camera of high resolution turned out the smallest in the industry, declared in the company.

The new product under the name RealSense LiDAR Camera L515 of the size of a tennis ball is held for use in systems operated in premises (warehouse robots, the systems of scanning of shelves in shops, etc.). Thanks to planar construction the device can be attached to the end of a robotic hand or the mobile device of the worker.

Intel provided the first in the range lidar

For development and integration into the software a set of means of Intel RealSense SDK 2.0 open source is provided.

The leader allows to distinguish the objects which are at distance of 25 cm up to 76 m at the maximum permission on depth in 1024 x 768 pixels. The viewing field of the sensor makes 70 by 55 degrees, and measuring accuracy at the maximum distance — up to 1.5 cm.

High resolution and the processor which is built in the camera on preprocessing of data that, for example, will allow to struggle with blurring at the movement of the camera or the subjects, gives the chance to use the camera not only as the stationary solution, but also with robotic or other smart equipment in the form of the hinged equipment.

The device is equipped with the accelerometer, a gyroscope and the RGB video camera with permission of Full HD. The solution is adapted for work with popular platforms in the field of robotics, for example, of ROS and OpenCV and also USB-C for data transmission is equipped.

Intel claims that RealSense LiDAR Camera L515 is intended first of all for logistic business with big warehouses for control automation by stocks.

By December 12, 2019 Intel opened preorders on purchase of the camera. Its price — $350. The beginning of deliveries of a product is planned for April, 2020.[1]
