Testing of the Synergy operating system

The Russian federal nuclear center (VNIIEF) tests the software platform developed by it based on the Synergy operating system (OS), TAdviser in September the deputy chief of service IT and BP of the Federal nuclear center Andrey Trishchenkov told. According to him, testing began spring of 2015.

As of fall of 2015 working Synergies versions are tested in some systems of the enterprise, for example, in the ERP system.

Load tests on ERP were carried out at the rate on 2.5-3 thousand users – such their number really works in a system. On the test number of users on the ERP system the platform did not show fundamental differences on performance from Windows OS, Trishchenkov says.

"We were faced by a task that performance, first of all, did not fall and whether there will be further in terms of performance a prize – a question open", - Trishchenkov told, having added that he by other Synergy parameters also essentially does not differ from Windows.

Interest in Synergy OS developed by VNIIEF is shown by the large Russian enterprises

In a conversation with TAdviser the representative of RFYaTs noted that the large organizations from other industries show great interest to the developed platform. In addition to the Russian Railway together with which the nuclear center cooperates on a number of developments in the field of software also Rostec,Rosneft,Gazprom and mass of other companies are interested in it.

The existing versions of the platform are not transferred to third parties to testing yet since it still is at a development stage. Besides, in the form in which the working solution now, it can be interesting not to all. "It needs to be given to an end, commercial product", - Trishchenkov notes.

Separate part of the infrastructure platform based on Synergy OS is the hardware. According to the interlocutor of TAdviser, in this direction VNIIEF has a cooperation with Scientific Research Institute Rosatom of measuring systems of Sedakov which is a part where development of hardware components is conducted.

Development of the platform based on Synergy OS

In one of the presentations of VNIIEF about development of IT in Rosatom published in March, 2015 some details about the developed import-independent platform based on Synergy OS are lit. In particular, about its functional features and scopes.

Concerning the first it is specified that Synergy OS represents the 64-bit operating system with mandatory access control and resource sharing. The platform on its base contains a hypervisor of the first level with multidomain structure of input-output. Also in it integration DBMS PostgreSQL and certification of DBMS as a part of the operating system is provided. In the platform there is no need of use of the imposed information security tools.

The platform based on Synergy OS will be able to work at the same time in three networks with information of a different confidentiality level (a state secret, chipboard Internet) on technology of "thin client", including work with engineering applications CAD CAM CAE, it is specified in the presentation.

It can be used in autonomous workplaces, for creation of automated systems in the protected execution, in an APCS of real time, in virtual an APCS, in management systems and protection (SUSA) and the systems of physical protection (SPP).

According to the presentation, the platform based on Synergy OS can be applied in geographically distributed management information channels in the protected execution and in functional distributed computing systems.

As envisioned by developers, until the end of 2015 the platform is going to be certified for work in a circuit of chipboard and a state secret, and in 2016-2017 to develop its functionality and to provide support of version control of a product at the enterprises.

2014: Development of OS on replacement of Windows

The federal nuclear center in Sarov (VNIIEF) conducts development of own OS under the name "Synergy", the associate director on IT of the nuclear center Oleg Krivosheyev reported in May, 2014. He told TAdviser that the developed system uses Linux kernel, and about 70 employees of the nuclear center are involved in its creation. At the time of the message the pilot version of Synergy OS is already used in "the special systems".

Development of Synergy OS is conducted within providing an importonezavisimost of the standard information system of a nuclear weapon complex (TIS NWC) created by the center which is going to be replicated for all the enterprises of the industry over time, and further - to develop based on this system the standard platform for defense industry enterprises. The Sarov nuclear center acts as a polygon on use of TIS NWC.

Synergy OS will allow to refuse Windows OS which is used now, Oleg Krivosheyev explained TAdviser. In addition to Synergy OS specialists of VNIIEF also conduct development of own DBMS based on PostgreSQL on replacement of Oracle DBMS and hypervisor for virtualization. All this software is going to be certified for work with a state secret and to use as platforms for work of the main systems entering into TIS NWC.
