The safe Threema messenger is one of the most protected services as executes end-to-end enciphering of all data which the user, whether it be messages, group chats, files of multimedia and even "statuses" exchanges. According to specialists of Roskomsvoboda public organization, the protected Swiss Threema messenger presumably is used by the Russian intelligence agencies for collection of information. Employees of the project detected the web application version for message exchange in the Register of Organizers of Dissemination of Information (RODI). Law No. 97 existing in the Russian Federation obliges the organizations specified in RORI "collect, store and provide information on actions of users on the resource to authorized state agencies"[1].

According to the statement of developers of the messenger to the TJ edition, work of their company is carried out within the legislation of Switzerland and does not collect the information about users and transfer to their foreign intelligence agencies. According to representatives of Threema, the application was entered in the register by Roskomnadzor. The Russian regulator itself requested from Swisses a name, physical and web - the address of service, developers explained. According to experts of Roskomsvoboda, the application can not store data of users if it is ready to provide to intelligence agencies access to them "in full on a permanent basis and without any requests". As specialists explained, metadata, contacts of the address directory and e-mail, number and the size of messages and also the exact time of authorization through third-party resources belong to the user information.

Desktop version

In February, 2017 Threema announced release of the desktop version of the protected Threema messenger using which service can use also on the desktop computer. As well as mobile version, the web client of Threema provides the high level of data protection and as much as possible limits any noncritical scenarios of interaction with data. In particular, instead of use of the server for synchronization of messages, Threema sets the direct ciphered connection between the browser and the mobile device using the SaltyRTC protocol.

Thus, messages can be synchronized without the need for their processing by the server. If the browser and the mobile device are connected to the same network, then data is not left its limits.

Unlike other services, the desktop version of Threema considerably reduces digital traces and minimizes creation of metadata. After completion of a session, synchronized messages immediately are removed from the computer. The web client of Threema in fact is expansion of the Threema application and completely mobile version meets the same high standards of security, as.

The web client of Threema is compatible to browsers on the basis of Chromium (Google Chrome Opera etc.) and also page Mozilla Firefox. Instant connection of the browser and mobile device happens by scanning QR code. After that all chats become completely available on the user's computer.
