On October 11, 2019 Uber started the water taxi in Lagos (Nigeria). The company is sure that service under the name UberBOAT will become demanded in the city, considering frequent and strong road jams there.

The service is started together with Management of waterways of the state Lagos (LASWA) and local company Texas Connection Ferries providing boats and services of transportation.

Users can call the high-speed boat through mobile application. It is possible to call the water taxi only on weekdays from 7 a.m. till 4 p.m. During testing of service users will be able to move along the fixed route between two points of the city.

Uber started the water taxi in Lagos (Nigeria)

At first through UberBOAT four trips a day will be made. On the boat there will be able to be at the same time about 35 people. It is in the future going to increase this indicator till 60-80 passengers.

The fixed fare in the amount of 500 naira ($1.39) for a trip whereas the trip on the share taxi to similar distance costs approximately 300 naira will be levied from passengers. And most of people live in the city for salary less than $2 a day.

According to forecasts of the UN, the population of Nigeria to 2050 will double and will make 400 million people that will make this country of the third in the number of inhabitants after China and India.

Rapid growth of the population and quantity of stoppers made Nigeria and all western part of Africa the attractive market for transport companies. About 20 million people live in Lagos (data for October, 2019).

Uber is going to expand global geography of availability of UberBOAT service.[1]
