Expansion of VMware services in Central Europe

On March 20, 2015 the VMware company announced creation of a data processing center of the corporate level for hybrid cloud services in Central Europe. The company expands infrastructure of VMware vCloud Air in Europe and declared availability of service on the platform in Frankfurt (Germany).

VMware platform in Germany will add a data processing center in Great Britain and an ecosystem of vCloud Air Network providers. It will allow customers to provide from Central Europe storage and data protection according to laws of Germany and the European Union, using advantages of a cloud environment of VMware of the corporate level.

"Distribution of VMware vCloud Air in Central Europe is another important step on the way of creation of global service of hybrid clouds. It will allow our customers easily and just to get access to resources of a public cloud, reducing operating costs and providing compliance to local requirements of their countries for data protection — Pat Gelsinger, the CEO of VMware noted. — The new center VMware will allow IT specialists, developers and the whole companies to get all advantages of use of a public cloud service of the corporate level which completely conforms to local security requirements of data in Frankfurt".

According to results of the research IDC conducted by request of VMware, most of IT heads in Germany (67%) plan or already use hybrid model in the cloud strategy.

VMware vCloud Air allows to integrate freely a cloud with the operating IT infrastructure of the company, providing ease of use and necessary flexibility for moving of applications to a public cloud and increases in capacities on demand. As a result the hybrid cloud provides compatibility with the existing corporate applications and also allows to create easily new applications in a cloud.

The research also showed that 65% of IT heads in Germany consider a hybrid cloud the crucial solution which will help them to reach business objectives and to compete successfully in the market by 2020.

VMware is going to begin providing additional cloud services on the basis of DPC in Frankfurt in 2015. Among services there will be a basic Google Cloud Platform set.

VMware expanded functionality of vCloud Air

On October 15, 2015, on VMworld 2015 Europe the VMware company provided enhanced capabilities of the unified platform for a hybrid cloud. They will help to accelerate application development, their delivery and deployment, will provide to customers profound analytics in a hybrid cloud.

VMware provided updating of VMware vCloud Air and VMware vCloud Air Network. The upgraded or expanded offers include:

  • Google Cloud DNS: as soon as Google Cloud DNS becomes publicly available, the organizations will be able to take advantage of a combination of VMware vCloud Air and Google Cloud Platform through uniform service of a hybrid cloud. Google Cloud DNS gives to the enterprises access to globally distributed services of DNS with high availability and scalability and also ease of management.

Representation of VMware vCloud Air Network: specialized service providers (2015)

Service will provide reliable and steady service of DNS with short delays through a global network of Google of the Anycast DNS servers. Google Cloud DNS simplifies to customers placement of applications with the web interface in the environment of VMware vCloud Air and will allow them to solve an important problem of transfer of servers of e-mail to a cloud. Besides, service can be configured using the interface of "command line", Developer's Console UI or REST API.

2014

On August 25, 2014 the VMware company provided new opportunities of the vCloud Air platform which allow to provide support of mobile cloud applicaions:

  • The new private cloud upon the demand of VMware vCloud Air Virtual Private Cloud OnDemand will provide to clients instant access on demand to vCloud Air using payment by the credit card.

Billing is provided for the consumed services directly in that zone where service will be used.

  • New means of storage of VMware vCloud Air Object Storage is developed as scalable, profitable and secure storage location for unstructured data, VMware vCloud Air Object Storage will allow customers to scale easily a system for loading of petabytes of data, paying only the used volume. As a part of VMware vCloud Air Object Storage there will be management tools lifecycle, support of versions and a possibility of storage of big objects. All this helps to simplify procedures and to reduce costs for management, implementing hybrid applications with high availability.

Prices and availability

  • VMware vCloud Air Object Storage will be available in the form of the beta in the third quarter 2014. Receipt of a product in sale is expected in the first quarter 2015.
  • VMware vCloud Air Virtual Private Cloud OnDemand is available within the program of beta testing. Receipt of service in sale is expected in the first quarter 2015. Developers and the IT companies can learn more about tests of Virtual Private Cloud OnDemand on the website of vendor.

Released fall of 2014 of VMware small survey video about five options of use of hybrid infrastructure based on vCloud Air:

1. Development and testing.

Very often by application development in the company or at tests of the third-party software hardware capacities are required. And, the volume of required hardware resources can strongly vary, and they, as a rule, are required only on a temporary basis. vCloud Air solves this problem from two parties - first, by billing only for the used capacities, and, secondly, fast deployment of new services (it is not necessary to wait for release of iron under problems of development and testing).

2. Redistribution of resources for applications.

If in the company use virtualization long ago, then, for certain, there are also virtualized VMware ThinApp applications which are very simple for transferring to vCloud Air cloud, and to select the released resources under urgent and critical tasks.

3. Recovery infrastructure after failures (DR).

One of the most tempting advantages of cloud infrastructures. Not each company is able to afford the reserve platform for the servers and also the Enterprise-equipment for creation of disaster-proof infrastructure. The cloud of vCloud Air solves this problem - remarks of virtual machines can be thrown back in a cloud from where it is possible to be recovered (to start machines there) in case of mass failure, accident or accident in the main DPC.

4. Upgrade of corporate applications.

Corporate applications on which business of the enterprise is started can be transferred to a cloud. And directly this applications it is possible to store on the platform, trusting a cloud only insensitive data. It will allow to service applications based on the politician, to timely update them and to use the most modern vCloud Air tools, and to retain data under supervision.

5. The platform for applications of new generation.

vCloud Air is a great platform for services of new generation - mobile applications and also applications which are initially ground under cloud infrastructure. The flexibility of vCloud Air and power of the vSphere platform and also other products of the line of vCloud, will allow to unroll and administer similar applications most effectively - in a cloud these tools are available in mode 24х7 and are constantly updated. Besides, cloud infrastructure is always ready to splashes in loading - both on computing resources, and on storages and traffic. It to you, most likely, will not be provided by own infrastructure. And if provides - you just overpay for the capacities which are standing idle in normal time.
