Windows CE 2.0 is the component operating system released by Microsoft corporation on September 29, 1997 Windows CE 2.0 was the full operating system for the built-in devices. Modular construction of the operating system allowed to delete separate parts in certain configurations.

Specific Features

Windows CE 2.0 could be used both for installation on mobile computers, and in automobile navigation systems and the industrial built-in devices.

As well as the first version, Windows CE 2.0 extended only among OEM. Updates of the most operating system and the program for synchronization of data with the desktop PC came out up to 1999.

Windows CE 2.0 had support of a large number of processors among which Intel x86 486 Pentium , NEC VR4x0x (MIPS) Hitachi SH3/SH4, AMD Elan SC400, IBM PPC 4036C, Motorola PowerPC 82x, etc. In practice, producers used generally only MIPS and SH3.

The operating system was able to work with network adapters, modems, VGA screens, expansion connectors with the PCMCIA and CompactFlash interface and other periphery. Pocket Access and PowerPoint were a part of the integrated software.

Based on Windows CE 2.0 more than ten models of the CPC, including Casio of E-10, Philips Nino 210/300, Everex Freestyle, Palmax PD-300, etc. were produced.

With a release of version 2.10, in the operating system support of the TCP/IP protocol, FAT32 file system, infrared port Fast Infrared Port (FIR) (with a transmission rate up to 4 Mbps), the buses USB, etc. appeared.
