Lukoil and MTS started the Russia's first project of contactless payments

On October 5, 2011 it became known that MTS starts the Russia's first system of instant mobile payments based on Near Field Communications (NFC) technology. Using phone with the NFC antenna it will be possible to pay for gasoline at Lukoil gas Station — at first in Perm, and then and in other regions[1].

The representative of MTS Valeria Kuzmenko told about a commercial project startup with Lukoil, the representative of Lukoil confirmed this information. To use service, it is required to purchase the special SIM card and the NFC antenna which is built in phone at MTS (the set costs about 200 rub). Having entered a payment amount and type of gasoline into special point of the telephone menu, the car owner brings phone to the special reader on the automated column, and money is charged directly off a mobile account. At the first stage a system will earn from gas stations of Lukoil in Perm (investments of partners into the project made only about 3 million rubles), and in the future will extend also to other regions, representatives of MTS and Lukoil promise.
