Rossvyaz will develop the plan of implementation of eSIM for 15 million rubles

On March 31, 2020 the Federal Communications Agency (Rossvyaz) announced the tender for development of the concept of use of eSIM technology in Russia. The maximum cost of the contract is 15 million rubles.

According to RBC with reference to information on the website of state procurements, the winner of the tender will have to execute the contract to the middle of December, 2020. He should offer methods of user identification of eSIM and authentication of its personal data. This procedure can be performed using biometric technologies.

Also the contractor should study a possibility of use in eSIM of technologies of information security, in particular domestic cryptography. It will analyze as they can be used in networks of foreign telecom operators, for example, if the subscriber appears in roaming and also as devices will work with foreign cryptography in the Russian communication networks.

Other tasks following: develop the list of regulatory legal acts which need to be corrected for implementation of eSIM and also to conduct patent researches "regarding consideration of a possibility of development of eSIM implementing domestic cryptographic algorithms".

Rossvyaz specified in technical specifications of the contract that the technology will find the broad application in phones and devices of Internet of Things. Among advantages to users from implementation of eSIM  the telecom operator has a possibility of remote service, convenience of using and also reduction of the sizes of subscriber devices and cutting of costs for their production. Telecom operators will be able to pass to direct sales, to improve customer service, to lower costs.

According to RBC, the Central Scientific Research Institute of Communications (CSRIC) is going to participate in the tender Rossyazi.[1]
