Sberbank "sat down" on agile development: after Agile - DevOps implementation

Sberbank implements practicians of DevOps in development of automated systems. As the consultant for this purpose the bank according to the results of tender in July, 2017 attracted McKinsey company [1].

Followed from the tender documentation published by Sberbank that the bank implements DevOps regarding subprocesses of continuous assembly, deployment and delivery (Continuous Integration, Delivery and Deployment). Automated systems for DevOps implementation from among direct systems of bank had to be chosen together with McKinsey which quoted for the services the price in 35.98 million rubles.

Sberbank wanted to get advice on development of process of DevOps taking into account the best world practices, including on cyber security.

Also Sberbank needed consultations on the software of DevOps including the solutions Jenkins and Ansible. Ansible is the Open source software for remote control configurations, and Jenkins is the project for continuous integration open source written on Java. In total setup of processes and the DevOps tools for perimeter no more than 30 commands and 10 automated systems was required for bank.

Among results of work of the consultant development of suggestions for improvement and to addition of the training materials and detailed instructions of DevOps prepared by the staff of Sberbank was expected.

Also the contractor had to hold seminars (workshops) for development teams and operation of automated systems in the field of development engineering the practician of DevOps, adaptation of DevOps-tools and culture.

At the suggestion of the chairman of the board German Gref, Sberbank actively implements methodologies of agile development. Earlier it was talked of Agile. Key feature of approach of DevOps it is possible to call active interaction of developers, testers, services of operation and support of the company. Unlike Agile-techniques, in DevOps also administrators and specialists of support services which directly deal with users of a product "are involved". The special automated tools allow to connect all stages of work on a product in the uniform pipeline.

Some of banks where DevOps is implemented especially actively, can call Alfa-Bank. At the end of 2016 he reported in the annual report on acceleration of development and deployment in the key focal directions by 60 times (read details). DevOps, for example, and in "Tinkoff Bank" is actively applied.
