Signing of the contract with Maxima Telecom

At the beginning of August, 2020 it became known of the contract signed between Moscow Metro and Maxima Telecom company which started free Wi-Fi in the subway earlier. The new agreement concerns installation of cameras with the system of face recognition.

According to Vedomosti with reference to technical specifications, the company should mount 12,304 carriage cameras, 418 servers of face recognition, 398 LTE routers and 1538 switches. Contract amount is 1.38 billion rubles.

Maxima Telecom it is obliged to execute the contract within 180 days from the moment of signing of the contract, i.e. till March, 2021. In pavilions and at stations of Moscow Metro of a system of face recognition are already used.

On the one hand, the equipment cameras of cars of the subway is necessary for security, with another is a moral and ethical question, argues the head of the Avanpost company specializing in the field of information security, Andrey Konusov speaks. Formally it is shadowing which can be used in the different purposes, he considers: officially – for fight against terrorism and search of criminals. But it is obvious that the persons obtaining information on movement of citizens can use it differently, Konusov does not exclude. Also data of smart video surveillance can be at some point used by large corporations for promotion of goods and services, the expert believes.

According to him, there is a risk of cracking of a system of face recognition for shadowing particular persons or other mercenary purposes.

According to the information security expert Denis Batrankov, it is not the first such project in the subway and the systems of protection of channels and access control to information already are, this task becomes simpler a little. In case of cracking the system of protection works and blocks unauthorized access, he added.[1]

The Moscow Metro buys cameras with the system of face recognition for 1.39 billion rubles

On July 21, 2020 it became known that the Moscow subway will buy cameras with a system face recognition for the amount of 1.39 billion rubles. The equipment will be installed in 1500 cars, reported in materials on the website of state procurements.

The purpose of execution of works is the increase in safety of passenger traffic and rapid response to emergence of events implemented by means of equipment of cars of the rolling stock of series 81,765/766/767 (and modifications) in number of 1538 pieces the equipment of a subsystem of automatic detection of persons of passengers in the video frames received from in addition mounted surveillance cameras, the document says.

In the same place it is told that the purpose of execution of works is "increase in safety of passenger traffic and rapid response to emergence of events". It is also going to set the software which will provide data access from video recorders in real time.

The Moscow subway buys cameras with a system face recognition

In each car will install eight cameras (it is going to buy 12,304 pieces), which will have to distinguish and sort persons. A system should be mounted until the end of 2020. By July of the camera with function of face recognition is only on the tourniquets located on an input in the subway.

According to "The Russian service BBC", face recognition — not the only element of collection of information about passengers of the subway. Earlier by request of Moscow Metro the system of personal communications on the basis of use of Big Data was developed.

According to the public contract, in its framework the mayor's office obtains information on a sex, age, income level, the social status of passengers of the subway. Besides, information on the phone number with a possibility of its decoding, said in the publication of the edition comes to a system.[2]
