TDM is an important part of a PDM system and is responsible for information support of production and management processes at the enterprise. Thus basic function of TDM technologies — consolidation in a hardware and software system whole for development of design and technology projects, engineering calculations and operation of CNC machines.

The end-to-end system of automation of processing of technical documents usually breaks into three parts:

• Management subsystems documents (electronic archive);
• Management subsystems data on projects and products;
• Subsystems of routing of documents and works.

Thanks to such separation into subsystems of TDM supports functions of differentiation of access rights and protection of documents, recordings of actions of users, preserving of routes of passing of documents.
