"Metrics" is a service of web analytics from Yandex Company for owners of the websites.

For July, 2014 the Metrics counter is used by more than four million websites.

History

2018: Adding of reports on monetization

On June 21, 2018 it became known that in " Yandex.metrics " there were reports on monetization which will help owners of the websites to analyze efficiency of placement in the advertizing network of "Yandex" (ANY). To use reports, it is necessary to specify number of the Metrics counter in a partner office of RSYa.

Owners of the websites can analyze demonstrations, profitability, average revenue on the user (ARPU) and other indicators of RSYa taking into account statistics of visits of the website in Metrics. Reports will be prompted, for example, how many demonstrations of advertizing were provided by each of sections of the website, what profitability of separate headings and articles. The analysis of these reports will help owners of the websites to earn more — for example, defining what content is pleasant to visitors more and brings more income from advertizing.

Also in Metrics it is possible to compare revenue, cost of demonstrations and other indicators for the users who got on the website by different methods — from search systems, social networks, advertizing channels and other sources. It will help to distribute more precisely the budget on search engine optimization, advertizing and purchase of traffic.

2017: Start of the tool " Yandex.radar"

On July 25 Yandex Company announced start of the public tool for monitoring of popularity of search systems and browsers in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Turkey — " Yandex.radar ". Reports of Radar are formed on the basis of data on from what searchers people get on the websites using " Yandex.metrics " and in what browsers they are opened.

The tool allows to watch both a situation in general, and changes in cuts for specific platforms and types of devices. For example, it is possible to look how within a year shares of search systems on a desktop or mobile browsers changed.

To provide representative selection of domains for the analysis, visits on own websites of "Yandex" are excluded from all reports of " Yandex.radar ". In addition, errors of measurements which arise because of features of work of some technological solutions for a web are adjusted. For example, because of mass transition on https-enciphering it is corrected on lack of a referer: in some old browsers it is lost upon transitions from https on http, explained in the company.

The amount of traffic is measured in visits. The region is calculated to the IP addresses of visitors of the websites, date and time of visits — on the time zone of the counter, and the browser, the operating system and type of the device — on the line User Agent. For determination of the search system the same principles, as in the report of the same name of " Yandex.metrics " are used.

2014: Metrics 2.0

In July, 2014 "Yandex" started the beta "Metrics 2.0". Now the owner of the website can learn everything about audience of a resource. It allows to use new Metrics for the solution of the most different tasks — from advertizing efficiency evaluation before purchase planning.

Earlier the service offered generally standard reports, and in "the Metrics 2.0" can create the report with any combination of parameters — so that at once to receive the answer to a question. Let's say it is necessary to understand how many Muscovites up to 25 years come to the website from social networks and to solve, where to have the blog. "The metrics 2.0" will construct the report by three parameters at once — to geography, age and sources of traffic. It should compare three different reports[2] earlier[2].

Other plus of new Metrics: in it there is a convenient tool for segmentation. Now users can build reports for any part of audience which is interesting to them. For example, to look how the captive audience of a forum grows, it is possible to make a cut on those users who already were on the website several times and attend a forum at least once a week. Precisely to outline a segment, it is possible to use different conditions and attributes — their more than 50. There is an opportunity also to compare segments among themselves, for example, to predict demand for a certain group of goods in the different cities.

It is known that beginners and regular customers behave on the website differently. "The metrics 2.0" allows to filter data on that and to others, for example, to look how beginners move on the website and whether not strongly lag behind those who already came. Service will show also as people came to the website to the last visit and from where came on it for the first time. It allows to estimate efficiency of different sources of traffic.

All listed opportunities are free and available to all websites irrespective of their size. Fresh data arrive on service almost in real time. Quickly to work with huge arrays of information, "Yandex" uses the ClickHouse database management system. It is own development of the Metrics command capable to process petabytes of data. In new Metrics also all opportunities of the former version of service will be available. After a while in "the Metrics 2.0" will appear Vebvizor and monitoring of the websites. For now it is possible to use both the old, and new version. To work with them, it is necessary to install the Metrics counter on the website. If it is already set, it is not necessary to do it repeatedly — the counter did not change.

2011: Opening of API

Yandex Company announced in May, 2011 that service " Yandex.metrics " opened the API. Now using API of " Yandex.metrics " it is possible to create proprietary applications for work with web analytics.

API provides data access from all reports of Metrics. Via the program interface it is possible to work with the existing counters and to create new, to manage accounts, access rights, the purposes and filters. It will allow to create useful applications.

The Internet agencies can build in reports of Metrics the management tools advertizing campaigns. Clients can provide reports in the interface of corporate applications. The companies have an opportunity to integrate Metrics with business applications and internal services.

CMS developers, forums or blogging engines have an opportunity to offer users the built-in reports on attendance. Developers of mobile applications can create programs for the operational notification on work of the website.
