IBM Power7 will allow the Perm Instrument-making Company to increase ERP system performance by 80%

The IBM corporation together with the Perm Research and Production Instrument-making Company (PRPIMC) announces project completion on migration of the automated control system for SAP R/3 enterprise on a hardware platform of IBM POWER7. Migration of the ERP system from HP servers on hardware solutions of IBM will allow PNPPK to increase performance of the ERP system and to increase calculation speed by production of parts on average by 80%.

The project is implemented by forces of the business partner of IBM, the Perm branch of Verysell projects company.

JSC PNPPK – one of leading enterprises in Russia on development and production of the systems of navigation, management and stabilization of aviation, rocket, sea and land application. The management of IT department of the enterprise was faced by a problem of increase in efficiency of support of the main production processes. Earlier during the one-time work in the system of a large number of users the average time of waiting of the simple sample of data was 10 minutes, and the average time of calculation of planned requirement of materials took 12 hours that slowed down production speed. With respect thereto the decision on upgrade of a hardware platform based on the IBM Power 750 servers was made.

Two IBM Power 750 servers running the AIX operating system were a part of a new hardware platform. As a result of project implementation the number of the users capable to work once in a system, increased twice, runtime of calculation of planned requirement of materials began to take 4 hours instead of 12, and waiting time of the simple sample of data decreased since ten minutes to one.

The contract for project implementation was signed in January, 2011. Implementation of a hardware platform was complete at the end of the first quarter 2011. In development plans for a hardware platform of the Perm Research and production Instrument-making Company – creation of a cluster based on IBM PowerHA for ensuring fault tolerance of productive SAP R/3 system) and migration of infrastructure of data storage on IBM STORWIZE disk storage system – V7000.
