Allied Telesis Inc company. provided the first card of virtualization AT-VNC10S working at speeds of 10G in May, 2011. The AT-VNC10S model is held for use in high-end servers and allows to connect both interfaces of SFP+ to one switch, providing double-sided capacity of the channel to the server to 40 Gbps. As the option, one of ports can be used for connection to infrastructure, and the second – for connection to the storage area network based on iSCSI.
In addition to the AT-VNC10S model the Allied Telesis company also provided two optical transceivers 10G for use with the multimode and single-mode optical fiber cable. The AT-SP10SR models for a multimode cable and AT-SP10LR for a single-mode cable are constructed based on the latest SFP+ standard that allows them to work with the speed ten times higher 1Gbps SFP at the same form factor. Unlike the existing XFP technology, new devices more compact and require less place on front panels of switches (that allows to set the bigger number of ports 10G or to leave space for installation of other ports).
The optical AT-SP10LR transceiver is used for work with the single-mode optical fiber cable at distances up to 10 km, and the AT-SP10SR model can work with different multimode cables:
- at distance up to 26 m using a "low-quality" cable;
- up to 300 m on a high-quality cable;
- the copper modules AT-SP10TW of fixed length are used for connections on copper: 1 m, 3 m or 7 m on the copper cables Twinax at connection at small distances for communication of switches and servers.
The AT-VNC10S card is optimized for use in projects of virtualization and provides a possibility of convergence, allowing to integrate all network communications on the uniform server, including data transmission (LAN), the organization of storage area networks (iSCSI) and a clustering.
The card of virtualization AT-VNC10S is equipped with the specialized hardware processors for processing (formation and decomposition) of the personnel for ensuring the greatest possible capacity and also the high-performance bus PCIe x8 for use with the modern server hardware. Besides, the card supports VMware Direct Path technology (SR-IOV) for decrease in loading during the work with input/output ports (that increases performance) due to sorting of data; besides, queues of Virtual Machine Device Queues (VMDQ) are supported. As the server of virtualization performs work of several servers at once, problems of each of these servers are located in separate queue. As the AT-VNC10S card executes separate sorting this, outgoing and arriving on separate queues, resources of the central processor of the server are exempted from accomplishment of housekeeping operations and can directly be used for applied calculations.
The card of virtualization AT-VNC10S and optical AT-SP10SR and AT-SP10LR transceivers are already available in the territory of Europe, the prices are provided on demand.
