Different approaches to the SCS organization in DPC — the choice between the number of connections and convenience

The choice of a method of implementation of an optical cross is influenced by several parameters, such as available area indoors, the available place in racks and the number of fiber optic connections per acre or RU. However the final decision should consider also requirements to operation of DPC – an opportunity and convenience of carrying out both the current works, and possible re-planning of installation. It is worth remembering that standards also recommend implementation of design of the engineering systems taking into account future possible changes or additions.

Standard optical regiments of sliding type which allow to place rather large number of fiber optic connections on 1 RU (to 96 fibers are most comfortable in operation when using duplex LC connectors). These regiments also provide enough place for switching of optical connections and carrying out installation works at the expense of the moving-forward section. Undoubted plus will be the possibility of use of preterminirovanny modules and cable assemblies in standard optical regiments that allows in case of need not only to make reconfiguration of the shelf, but also to move it in structure of DPC. Other undoubted plus is also the possibility of use of similar shelves as a part of intelligent solutions.

If the question of existence of the place in racks is particularly acute enough, and the capacity of standard shelves becomes insufficient, then it should be taken into account the possibility of use of specially designed shelves of high density allowing to place up to 144 fiber optic connections in 1 RU. However the back of such solution is its more difficult installation and operation, in difference from the shelves which are constantly decreasing in the amount of structural elements human hands do not change. Facilitate the procedure of installation and process of operation in that case use of preterminirovanny solutions also can. They not only facilitate work, but also allow to increase cross density, having placed up to 864 connections on 1 RU when using MPO connectors. Use of such connectors will also allow to prepare telecommunication infrastructure for transition to use of technologies 40G/100G.

Use of preterminirovanny solutions also helps if room space is insufficient for placement of all necessary equipment. As preteminirovanny modules do not require special solutions for the organization and connection of a cable, they can be placed not only to standard optical shelves, but also in the simple panels set in 19" telecommunication racks. These panels can be taken also out in mini-19" the racks strengthened over cabinets with active equipment. The last option also considerably facilitates reconfiguration of DPC as at the same time the laid routes SCS are not affected.

The CommScope company offers products allowing to implement any of above-mentioned options as a part of SYSTIMAX Solutions line.
