NETA implemented electronic storage for books of NGONB

The NETA company completed the project on delivery of the equipment for deployment of a server framework in the Novosibirsk State Regional Scientific Library (NSRSL).

The storage system will allow to contain all volume of electronic funds of library.

Since 2004 within the Federal target program "Culture of Russia" the project on creation of the National digital library is implemented. The project is designed to increase efficiency of use of the Russian library resources as the most important component of national property and provides formation of network of the local digital libraries integrated by the single interface, the search system and user base. Gradually funds of regional book-depositories will be a part of the National digital library.

One of conditions of successful implementation of this project, extremely important for the Russian culture, is existence of the modern reliable platform for placement of funds of library in electronic form. For the purpose of creation of electronic storage the Novosibirsk state regional scientific library announced an open competition among IT contractors. As the supplier of the solution the NETA system integrator was selected.

The project was executed by NETA company based on the equipment of EMC whose products are already used in other book-depositories of Russia that will allow to simplify further integration of NGONB with other libraries. The system scaling option up to 8 shelves is provided in an installed system of data storage (120 hard drives with the supported capacity up to 2 of Tb). Due to upgrade of a system in more senior models, it is possible to receive expansion to 64 shelves (to 960 hard drives). As a server hardware platform in the project servers edges (ultracompact servers with the general basket) NR companies which already proved the efficiency in a set of DPC worldwide are used.

"For a storage system of NGONB all conditions allowing it effectively are created and to function smoothly during the long period of operation: the conditioning system, uninterrupted power, active network equipment with a possibility of upgrade is installed. The used solution and the equipment meet not only the current requirements, but also have a big backlog on the future. Moreover, at design of this system special attention was paid to reliability of a system what principal components of DWH and servers were reserved for", – the director of software and information solutions of NETA company Oksana Vladimirovna Viktorova emphasizes.

Approximately electronic storage will allow to contain more than 50 thousand (after scaling from 300 thousand to 2 million) books and periodicals. Priorities in transfer to an electronic form are given to rare fund of pre-revolutionary editions (the newspapers "Sibirskaya Zhizn", "Sibirskaya gazeta", "Tomskiye gubernskiye vedomosti" and dr), to the Soviet editions of pre-war time (the Soviet Siberia newspaper, the Sibirskiye Ogni magazine and dr). One more of priority projects is "A digital library of the academician V.P. Kaznacheev".

Project objective - creation of an open electronic information resource of scientific works of our outstanding fellow countryman V.P. Kaznacheev and editions about his activity, broad promoting of the ideas of the scientist, activation of a public discussion on key issues on which scientific and public work of the academician touches.
