Development of the Cognitive CrossDB platform began in 2003 and demanded about 95 cheloveko-years. The outstanding Soviet and Russian scientist, the specialist in the field of DBMS (the developer of domestic DBMS "Ines" and Nika), professor, the Dr.Sci.Tech. Nikolay Yemelyanov directed the project (8/18/1939 — 1/14/2010). Now PhD in Technological Sciences Ivan Tarkhanov is responsible for development of the project in Cognitive Technologies company.
Systems created based on Cognitive CrossDB are intended for work with the objects having complex structure — documents with a large number of details, business rules of processing and files. Treat such systems: electronic document management systems, automation systems of business processes, electronic archives and data warehouses. The new platform uses the SQL standard over which management of documents based on XML-technologies is organized.
Among the main features of the new platform: the certified management subsystem access — systems constructed on Cognitive CrossDB will automatically support the certificates according to requirements of information security put at the level of the platform, use of the manager of access provides separation of business operations and access control that guarantees impossibility of unauthorized access to documents and commission of independent actions at the level of architecture; independence of implementation of DBMS — information systems based on the CrossDB platform are independent of specific implementation of DBMS and language of requests, now CrossDB supports work with the MS SQL Server 2005/2008 and Oracle 10g/11g, in the next plans — connection of PostgreSQL, IBM DB2 and MySQL; dynamic change of the scheme DB — CrossDB allows to create and change the description of the scheme DB "on the fly" from client applications, changes of the scheme DB remain at once and are ready to use in real time without violation of the normal mode of system operation.
According to the vice president of Cognitive Technologies Nikolay Nikolsky, "Cognitive CrossDB personified all experience in the field of creation of the systems of work with difficult objects accumulated by staff of the company from 70th years. The release of the platform will allow us and our partners to offer customers of a system of the protected electronic document management at the level of world leading manufacturers according to the Russian requirements of information security. On functionality I would refer developments of IBM (IBM Content Manager) to analogs of the Cognitive CrossDB platform and EMC (EMC Documentum Content Server)".
The architecture of the platform is expected creation of document management systems in local and geographically distributed structures with the complex circuit of information flows.
Commenting on release of the new platform, the head of technology laboratory "Euphrates" Alexey Chudakov noted: "Cognitive CrossDB meets requirements imposed to modern data warehouses and allows to create secure systems of management of documents based on popular DBMS. Use of Cognitive CrossDB as a technology platform for the new version of EDMS "Euphrates" will allow our customers not only to select DBMS, but also to work with different DBMS within one information system".
Among additional functionality of Cognitive CrossDB it is possible to note: expanded client tools for structure declaration of documents, creation and editing documents; storage of the structured and unstructured data; the developed language of requests for document retrieval; version controls; manager of access to documents; recording; import and export of data to XML.
According to Cognitive Technologies, implementation of document management systems based on the new platform will be especially effective for the organizations with the distributed structure and customers with IT infrastructure based on different DBMS. Use of Cognitive CrossDB will allow to reduce many times costs for development, implementation, operation and the subsequent upgrade of information systems, developers claim.
Now the Cognitive Cross DataBase platform prepares for passing of certification of FSTEC on several standards (levels) of security.
