The campaign for failure from Windows XP gains steam. Microsoft announced the termination of support of this OS in 1000 days. The following favourite - Windows 7, and stands Windows 8 behind it.
On Monday Microsoft made one more very aggressive course, in attempt to convince clients to refuse Windows XP and to install Windows 7, saying that time of support of the old operating system is about 1000 days. About it Stephen Rose, the manager of IT community of the Windows command wrote in the blog of the company: "Windows XP worked remarkably and millions of PC users are grateful for it. But time to go further came". He added that support of security systems of OS comes to the end "less than in 1000 days".
Actually, XP have a little bit more than a lifetime: Microsoft promised to release patches of XP till April 8, 2014, i.e. 1002 days.
Emphasized with Rose that after this date personal computers running Windows XP will be vulnerable for threats. "Besides, many software providers do not assume to give support to the applications working at Windows XP that creates additional difficulties, risks in a security system and finally will increase costs for department of IT", - he told.
On statistical data and polls of research companies, work on movement of users with XP at Microsoft goes. Measurements of Net Applications company, for example, show a share of use of Windows 7 - 27%, but 51% of personal computers in the world still are controlled XP. If trends of the last three months, concerning both OS remain, the share of the used Windows 7 will not exceed a share of XP before the second quarter 2012.
According to Forrester Research, business now even relies upon Windows XP more. The company came to this conclusion as a result of recent assessment of a share of the growing old operating system for 60% of corporate PCs.
The message which was published in the blog of vendor on Monday was not the first when Microsoft positions XP as OS of last days. At the beginning of this year heads of the Internet Explorer command, explaining why this OS will not work with IE9 or other browsers of the future, called XP "lowest common denominator".
The company takes effective measures for destruction of products which it considers outdated. From the middle of 2009 Microsoft urges users to refuse IE6 - the browser which left shortly before XP. Four months ago it started the website which underlines reduction of use of a share of IE6.
The next pushing to failure from XP matched opening of a partner conference of Microsoft (Worldwide Partner Conference), annual meeting of resellers of the company. The chief executive Steve Ballmer opened WPC celebration of the next milestone in the history of Windows 7: sale of 400 million licenses of this OS.
Tami Reller, the head of group of marketing of the products Windows, quoted this number for comparison of volume of Windows 7 with XP for a similar period and emphasized it is triple higher speed, than at Windows XP.
On Monday did not mention Windows Vista - the version of OS which was called the first by unsuccessful Microsoft OS, starting with Windows Millennium in 2000. Clients agree: Vista reached the maximum level (slightly less than 19%) in October, 2009, but since then lost about a half of the share.
However Reller spoke not only about Windows 7 as replacement for XP, but also her successor - Windows 8 as, as expected, its deliveries will begin next year. It though urged corporate clients to continue deployment of Windows 7, nevertheless promised that Windows 8 will work on the same equipment. She told that for corporate clients of Microsoft, their clients "it is an important element because capability of Windows 8 to work on Windows 7 devices guarantees safety in the future of investments which consumers make today".
Though neither Reller, nor Ballmer mentioned lifecycle of Windows 7, the company will push the consumers working at Windows 7 to update systems to Windows 8. According to old practice of Microsoft, it will support Windows 7 Home Premium, the most popular editorial office OS for individuals, within five years - a half of time planned for support of OS of the enterprises. Support of Windows 7 of Home Premium, regarding security, will be completely stopped in January, 2015, the analyst of the Computerworld edition reports.
