Citrix Netscaler provided delivery of video of content on a youth Internet channel of molodejj.tv

Exit to the viewer not only through a television format, but also using more modern and relevant means of youth communication, the Internet, demanded uninterrupted and steady delivery of heavy video content to the end user on condition of high loads on servers. Before implementation of new infrastructure of storage system and distribution of media content for work of the website three servers of production of HP were used. One was responsible for operation of the Web server, the second – for distribution of advertizing filmlets, in the third the main video content was located.

Rapid growth of popularity of the website led to the fact that in 2 months servers ceased to cope with the task: users complained of slow loading of video and of problems with viewing. For elimination of these inconveniences organizers of the website addressed the Russian integrator Quarta Technologies. Specialists of the company carried out the fast and effective analysis of a situation and defined "bottleneck" of web service. Infrastructure which would allow to solve a problem of speed of downloading of rollers was necessary and at the same time would have an opportunity to increase system performance in process of growth of loading.

Project tasks and choice of the solution

Uninterrupted and steady delivery of heavy video content to the end user on condition of high loads on servers was a paramount technology project task.

For this purpose specialists of Quarta Technologies company offered the scheme of work at which requests of the user arrive on "virtual" Citrix NetScaler VPX which distributes requests for several servers of processing. Servers are in turn connected to high-performance disk storage HP EVA4400.

Citrix NetScaler VPX has ample opportunities of balancing of loading, monitoring of work of components of a system, providing statistics on loading and the downloaded traffic that allows to predict loading and to beforehand plan scaling of a system. Results of Implementation

Installation and start of a system in operation on "Molodejj.tv" it was performed in one week. The flexible solution allowing to guarantee stability of work of all system in general and to scale it with the minimum labor costs and in short terms was as a result set.

So, in a case with "Molodejj.tv" of NetScaler it was initially licensed on the maximum traffic in 200 megabits per second, but in connection with growth of load of the server in peak hours the expanded license was purchased. As a result performance of service was increased up to 3 gigabits per second in only 15 minutes.
