HP DDMA (Discovery and Dependency Mapping Advanced Edition)

The HP company announced in August, 2011 release of the next version of the auxiliary tools for inventory and comparison of dependences in large IT-systems under the name DDMA (Discovery and Dependency Mapping Advanced Edition). In the new version of DDMA functions which allow customers to define precisely what specifically systems and applications are used by these or those divisions, and in what volumes are implemented. Data retrieveds help to organize the system of the return charges for IT service between divisions and also can be used in other tasks of management.

Comparison of dependences allows architects of data processing centers to open communications between applications, servers and storage systems. Thus, the possibility of loss of any important components at consolidation of systems, replacement of the outdated equipment is excluded and at implementation of projects.

As Jimmy Augustine said, the marketing manager of group products in a division of software products of HP, most of managers in data processing centers on average know about 80% of all systems and components on the platforms. The DDMA technology provides to these managers missing 20% of knowledge.

During the work with DDMA technology the manager can enter the range of the IP addresses then the program checks all SNMP traffic, data packets and other data to make an exact picture of the corresponding IT equipment. Also verification of executable files on servers is executed – it allows to make the exact list of all installed applications.

One more new feature in the new version of DDMA carries the name "combined portal" (collector portal). In fact it is the web interface where all applications and dependences detected by the DDMA system are listed. Having on hand these lists, the customer can specify manually what divisions and services correspond to each specific element.

When calculating internal charges if different departments use the same application, the company can separate expenditure between these departments according to the actual loading. In projects on write-off of an obsolete equipment the DDMA system allows to see to what departments it is necessary to apply for permission when dismantling these or those components.

It is necessary to notice that new means of inventory and comparison of dependences, including the portal of data collection, are a part of the complex Data Center Transformation Accelerator Package for DDMA set which is free of charge delivered to owners of the license for DDMA. All working these DDMA systems are stored in a DB of configuration management of HP of Configuration Management Database. The DDMA system is licensed on number of the serviced servers on the platform of the customer. In the present version the packet of DDMA received functions of inspection of the Microsoft Exchange 2010 and IBM AS400 servers and also the improved support of mainframes of IBM and the console Windows PowerShell interface.
