Cisco purchased technology using which it embeds the software for joint work in Microsoft Office applications.

Cisco announced acquisition of Versly private company, application developer of joint work for Microsoft Office. Transaction amount does not reveal. Before the transaction is closed, all personnel of Versly will be transferred on a full-time basis divisions of Cisco Collaboration Software Group.

The created Versly plug-in allows users to interact when editing content of documents, tables, the presentations and e-mail messages. Software will allow Cisco to integrate social technologies into the business applications, declared vendor.

According to Cisco, number of users of applications of Microsoft Office where the popular Microsoft Word programs enter Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Outlook, totals 600 million people. The transaction will allow also partners of Cisco to create new products for joint work, said in the official statement.

Joint work is one of the main technology priorities for Cisco, the company actively is implemented on the market which volume reaches $45 billion.

Software of Versly will be integrated into the different programs of Cisco intended for joint work. He will allow users to receive, for example, notifications from Cisco Quad when content of the document is changed, to start sessions of instant messaging through Jabber or to initiate sessions of web conferences directly from the presentations by means of WebEx.

Cisco perfectly understands that even in the world the Web 2.0, applications for desktops like Microsoft Office continue to play very important role. "It is what clients constantly ask about", -Murali Sitaram, the vice president and the chief manager of Cisco Collaboration Software Group [[Sitaram Murali|]] noted. The corporate clients of Cisco using solutions of vendor for joint work need also Microsoft Office, Outlook and Exchange. "They often ask how we could integrate these things", - he added.

In May Jive Software purchased OffiSync offering similar functionality of joint work for Microsoft Office applications. OffiSync supports joint work by means of integration into Google Docs, the equal functionality is available also within the Jive platform. Jive will be integrated also with Microsoft Outlook.
