Content

Femap is the software environment for solving of tasks of reverse engineering allowing to create final and element models of difficult products and systems and to analyze the received results. Femap gives the chance to model components, nodes and systems and helps to provide a picture of behavior of the studied construction accurately.

Using instruments of computational modeling Femap you can:

  • In advance to estimate and improve utilization properties and product quality
  • Reduce time and finance costs by creation and testing of physical prototypes
  • Compare different options of geometry of construction and the used materials
  • Optimize construction and cut the material consumption

Femap 10.3

Femap is the powerful and economic solution in the field of KE-calculations. A system is simple in use and works practically with all leaders CAD-applications. Femap helps engineers to create different products more effectively, giving at the same time confidence that the product will work as it is conceived. Femap 10.3 complements these characteristics with the new functionality increasing the speed and convenience of work in the environment of digital modeling even in the most difficult industries of the world industry including automotive industry and the aerospace enterprises.

  • The new feature of automatic preparation of geometry significantly reduces time spent for preprocessing of a complex geometry by a preprocessor (creation of a grid of terminal elements), at the same time it differs in the simple user interface and can adjust and correct automatically problem places, for example, gaps between surfaces and too short edges. As a result the grid on models is most often created from the first attempt and without any user intervention.
  • The improved user interface supports interactive setup of model for use of the possibility of the analysis of aeroelasticity which is built in NX Nastran now. The given perfectly integrated interface saves time at the solution of difficult tasks of modeling and the analysis of aeroelasticity – for example, at determination of influence of an air flow on such objects as an airplane wing and also significantly reduces the probability of introduction of errors at data transmission from the application of konechnoelementny modeling in the system of the konechnoelementny analysis.
  • The Femap Postprocessing Toolbox tool kit is expanded and now includes the "free body" tool which increases the speed and simplicity of work during creation of schedules of free bodies and the analysis of loadings in places of contact of bodies.

"The new feature of automatic preparation of geometry in Femap 10.3 is capable to work with so complex geometry that creation of a grid of terminal elements on it in the majority of systems presented at the market is just impossible. Femap copes with such tasks for couple of mouse clicks, – George Laird, the chief mechanical engineer and the owner of Predictive Engineering company says. – Actually, in the new version the average speed of creation of a grid for typical model of a cast part increased almost by 50 times. Femap 10.3 really changes our understanding about creation of grids on difficult solid-state models".

Independence of CAD systems

Femap does not depend on the applied CAD systems and allows to import geometry from the majority of automated design engineering systems, such as CATIA, Pro/Engineer, NX, Solid Edge, SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Having imported geometry, you can prepare model for the analysis, using special tools for detection and display of potentially problem elements, for example, of narrow surfaces, and or to completely delete them using instruments of processing of geometry, or to extinguish them. Femap also includes a broad spectrum of tools on creation and editing geometry using which you can make all necessary changes to initial geometry by preparation for creation of final and element model.

Creation of final and element models

Femap opens access to final and element model with all initial data, allowing you to browse, create and edit any parameters. Instruments of grouping, splitting into layers and visualization of Femap will help you during creation of models and a task of their parameters.

Femap includes the following special features for simplification of a problem of creation of final and element model:

  • Creation of a median surface for creation of design models of thin-walled constructions and improvement of quality of the shell models
  • The welding modeling allowing to integrate separate parts in uniform model
  • Creation of data fields which will allow you to set complex conditions of loading, based on results of the previous analysis

Creation of a final and element grid

Generators of grids Femap thanks to existence of extensive library of terminal elements of the necessary form allow to create KE of a high-quality grid and to receive exact results of the solution. Femap gives you the chance to completely control all parameters of generation of a grid, such as slot pitch, creation of a grid for small parts, increase coefficients, accounting of small geometrical elements, etc. At a complex geometry modification of a grid in those its areas where the special accuracy of calculation is necessary often is required. Tools of the Meshing Toolbox panel of the Femap software product will allow you to make such modeling, changing slot pitch parameters in initial model in an interactive mode; at the same time the grid will be updated automatically. Besides, modifying a grid, using a graphic scale it is possible to analyze at once quality of the created terminal elements to be convinced, the created final and element model meets criteria of quality.

Modeling of assemblies

The Femap with NX Nastran system allows to make modeling and the analysis of assemblies, including provides the instrument of automatic detection of the contacting bodies. Contact surfaces can be set as directly contact (with/without friction) or stuck together among themselves. Contact pairs participating in calculation using NX Nastran it is iterative are updated during the solution taking into account the deformations arising in real contact interaction.

There are also other technologies of modeling of connections in assemblies: spot welding, fixture and bolted connections with an opportunity to set preliminary zatyag.

Modeling of frame elements

In addition to modeling solid-state and the Femap shell elements also supports creation of KE of a grid on the basis of frame elements. This technology allows to provide models with the available long thin components (for which use of solid modeling would give too bulky model) in the form of 1D-elements with the set properties.

Visualization of model is extremely important during creation of rod models. With Femap you will be able to browse frame elements as solid-state and also to include display of shift of section. In Femap there is an editor of properties of section who turns on library of standard forms of transverse section. You can also create own sections of any form, and the built-in calculator of properties of section will automatically determine required properties.

Also other options of visualization of frame elements and also a full range of types of results, including deformations of shift and a diagram of the bending moments are also available.

Modeling of composites

For the last few years use of composite materials significantly increased in designing. Femap can help you with modeling and postprocessing of results of calculation of composite constructions. By means of the editor and means of display of composites in Femap you can change properties of composite materials, for example, using creation or editing properties of separate layers.

Postprocessing of analysis results of composite materials using the Femap global composite ply tool which allows to display results in continuous layers of construction is also available to you.

Independence of solvers

Femap does not depend on the applied final and element solvers and provides to the user full-function pre-and postprocessing for all main solvers in the market, including for NX Nastran, Ansys, LS-DYNA, Abaqus and TMG. You get all advantages of use of advanced opportunities of calculation in these solvers thanks to means of complex support of modeling and the analysis of Femap, in particular, at dynamic analysis, different types of the nonlinear analysis, the analysis of heattransfer and hydraulic gas dynamics.

Postprocessing

Extensive opportunities of visualization help to process quickly results of calculation that allows to provide a picture of behavior of the modelled construction accurately. You receive all necessary tools for viewing and processing of results, such as:

  • Display of distributions in the form of outline drawings
  • Output of animation of the deformed forms
  • Output of the dynamic planes of section and dynamic isosurfaces
  • Charts and diagrams
  • Power schemes and output of balance of forces
  • Animation in time or depending on frequency

Full access to numeric data is provided through a panel of tabular representation which you can use for collecting, ordering and control of quantity and data type for an output and further drawing up the analytical report.

Scalable PLM Solutions

The line of the SAE-products Velocity Series consists of scalable software solutions for design engineers and represents the Solid Edge Simulation program with a built-in CAD system and also Femap with NX Nastran for reverse engineering specialists.

The product line of Femap with NX Nastran gives to the user an opportunity of the choice of the software solution depending on scales and requirements of its enterprise – from the most general opportunities of computational modeling available in the basic module, to more advanced additional opportunities, such as add-on modules for dynamic, optimization, expanded nonlinear analysis, the analysis of dynamics of rotors, the analysis of heattransfer and hydraulic gas dynamics.

Modification according to requirements of the customer

Unlimited opportunities of customization of Femap allow to get full access to functionality of Femap by means of the API interface on the basis of object-oriented OLE/COM technology which uses standard, open programming languages. Access to the API interface is provided through own coding environment which is built in the user interface. In it you will be able to create the user subprogrammes automating workflows. Besides, this environment can interact and exchange data with other programs, for example, with Microsoft® Word and Excel.

Usability

Femap represents the intuitive means working in the usual Windows environment. Femap supports a set of graphic windows and specialized panels, such as Model Info Tree or Data Table giving full access to final and element model and data of analysis results that helps to increase efficiency of workflow. You can change a type of the interface according to your requirements, for example, to move panels, to correct the volume of available functions. Complete customization of the toolbar and labels is also possible.
