At the last stage of the project, the specialists of DialogueNauka JSC assessed the compliance with the requirements of the PCI DSS 3.1 standard, as a result of which DataSpace issued a PCI DSS version 3.1 compliance certificate.
2014: Tier III Operational Sustainability-Gold Certificate
Uptime Institute awarded DataSpace the first Russia Operational Sustainability-Gold Tier III in September 2014. Tier III Operational Sustainability-Gold is the highest measure of data center operational sustainability. Obtaining such a certificate provides for the Uptime Instiute field examination team to conduct a multi-stage analysis of the regulations, organizational structure and behavior models of the data center operational team based on more than 60 criteria, including the level of personnel training, logistics, site characteristics and its location[1]
Until September 2014, only four data centers in the world passed Operational Sustainability-Gold certification in the Tier III category, three of which are located in the United States and one in the UK. The Moscow DataSpace1 Processing Center has become the fifth certified data center in the world, bringing the Russian data center market to a new level of quality of colocation services in accordance with the highest international industry standards.
"TierIII Operational Sustainability-Gold certification is an outstanding achievement for our data center operations team," says David Hamner, co-founder of DataSpace and Chairman of the Board of Directors. - DataSpace customers pay primarily for an exceptionally high level of services. The combination of a high degree of security, reliability and fault tolerance ensures the necessary stability and security of the information environment of our customers. Passing all the stages of Tier III certification can be considered our big victory, while it is especially important to ensure the operational stability of the data center, because statistically data center failures in most cases are associated precisely with the human factor. Our Tier III Operations Sustainability-Gold certification minimizes this risk. We intend to retain the primacy in the Russian market in implementing such high world standards and remain faithful to our plans for further development in Moscow and the Moscow region. "
Earlier, DataSpace became the first certified member of the Uptime Institute international network in Russia, as well as the first data center in Russia to be awarded Tier III Design Documents (November, 2010) and Tier III Constructed Facility (September, 2011) certificates.
Pitt Turner, Honorary Executive Director and Senior Certifier of the Uptime Institute: "As part of the DataSpace certification in previous stages, we noted for ourselves the exceptional competence and readiness of the DataSpace operational team to apply for the highest level of Uptime Institute certification in the Tier III category - Operations Sustainability-Gold. Compliance with these requirements fully reflects the mission of the Uptime Institute: professionalism and strict adherence to the highest standards in the interests of customers. " Pitt Turner visited Moscow for certification to Fred Dickerman, Vice President of DataSpace.
2011: Data center launch in Moscow
In 2011, DataSpace built a data center (DPC) in Moscow, certified in Tier III level not only according to design documentation, but also according to the results of construction (Tier III Facility). This is the first data center with such a certificate in Russia. The project was developed and implemented by HP Critical Facility Services (HP CFS).
As DataSpace President David Hamner' told TAdviser, three buildings with a total area of 18 thousand square meters are located on the central site of DataSpace City. So far, the construction of only the first phase has been completed and the development of the next two is underway, after which 9 thousand square meters of data center space will be built on the central site. In total, the data center at the tire plant will have 45 machine rooms with an energy consumption of 50 mW. "In addition, we are developing an additional three sites beyond the Moscow Ring Road to provide our customers with the opportunity to ensure the uninterrupted operation of their business processes," he added. One of them will be in Balashikha.
The construction of a data center in Moscow and three more DataSpace sites outside the Moscow Ring Road will cost the company several hundred million dollars
According to David Hamner, DataSpace is investing $260 million in foreign investments to develop and manage data centers in the constellation market. Moscow The investment includes $150 million provided by the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC,). USA "We wanted to ensure a competitive advantage and were the first to receive certification of the data center in terms of Tier III. We took up a project that had never been implemented in Russia before," he said. Earlier, DataSpace announced that it would spend a total of $600 million on data centers in Russia.
HP CFS engineers spent a year designing DataSpace City. As a result, on the basis of the former tire plant in Moscow, an object was built on the territory of 6 thousand square meters. in the data center 12 separate halls for customer equipment for 1 thousand. server racks.

As TAdviser David Hamner specified, the first clients of the DataSpace data center were financial institutions and telecom providers. At the time of opening, the date of the center is approximately one third. "We are also negotiating with customers, the total demand is three times higher than the remaining two-thirds of the capacity. The full date center will be loaded 100% by the end of 2012. Such demand for the first date of the center served as a signal necessary for the start of construction of the second date of the center, "said the President of DataSpace.
As for the certificate from the Uptime Institute, according to a top manager, DataSpace is the only date center that not only received a Tier III certificate for design documentation (Tier III Design), but also built and passed a commission check for compliance with the certified documentation built by the data center - Tier III Facility. "No data center in all of Eastern Europe has such a certificate - Facility and at present there is not a single application from Russia for compliance with the built capacities of the declared documentation," said David Hamner.
The only data center in Moscow in Eastern Europe is certified TIER III Facility
DataSpace plans to apply for Tier III Operationa Sustainability certification - there are only 4 such centers in the world. Note that the Moscow data center KROKa, the Megafon data center in the Volga region and the Sberbank data center are positioned as Tier III data centers in Russia.
As explained by TAdviser Alexey Karpov, Director of the Department of Engineering Systems of Asteros, the Uptime Institute really has two types of certification: an assessment of the design documentation of the object, the second is an assessment of the built data center. "At the moment, in Russia, only one certified data center as a site is the Dataspace data center. CROC has not yet received such a certificate. 4 sites have been certified for the design TIER III stage - Dataspace, CROC, Megafon, MegaData Center of Sberbank, - he said.
According to Aleksei Karpov, there is a serious interest, especially among telecom companies, in the new commercial data centers. "I am familiar with several companies that are going to build kData Centers in 2012 and increase capacity to 2,000 racks by 2013. Since there is demand, the construction of the kData Center will continue on an increasing exponential basis, he added. Asteros analyzes the market and is considering creating a TIER III data center in the future.
Ruslan Zadinov, Deputy General Director of CROC, says that there is a shortage of supply of high-quality data centers on the market . "Only four sites were not afraid to confirm the quality of the data center. Moreover, one of them is Sberbank, but this is a corporate data center, the capacity of which is not intended for the market. All other data centers, no matter how many they advertise themselves, did not dare to certify, which suggests that they have serious shortcomings in terms of the stability of the functioning of engineering systems, "he said in an interview with TAdviser.
According to Ruslan Zadinov, such companies agitate the customer at a price, not quality. This inhibits the development of the market and negatively affects its competitiveness. In such a situation, few people will decide to build really good data centers, the expert believes. He also added that CROC in the future plans to increase its offer quantitatively due to new sites and qualitatively due to new services.
HP TAdviser said the company is actively involved in several interesting data center projects in various sectors of the economy, but has not yet been able to announce them.
