Development of "clouds" stimulates demand for storages

Within the next five years cloud computing will be the pacing directing factor of IT expenses as providers of public cloud services and implementers of private "clouds" will invest in providing infrastructure.

According to the new forecast of IDC company, the total costs of suppliers of public cloud services of the equipment of storages, the software and professional services from 2010 to 2015 will grow in the annual average rate (CAGR) of 23.6%. At the same time the indicator of CAGR of expenses of the enterprises on storage systems in private "clouds" will be 28.9%. By 2015, universal expenses on storage systems in the public and private cloud systems will reach $22.6 billion.

As Richard Villars noted, the vice president of IDC and the analyst on storage systems and the strategy of implementation, despite the current economic uncertainty, IDC expects that one and all suppliers of cloud services will be in vanguard on costs for IT solutions and services. It is connected with the continuing cloud expansion, construction of new objects worldwide and expansion of opportunities of business.

Most of all consumption of storage systems, in the last three years, was influenced by development of suppliers of infrastructure and consumer cloud applicaions. Many of suppliers of cloud services (for example, iTunes, Netflix, YouTube, Facebook) act as content warehouses which are a basis for accumulation, the organization and ensuring access to a large number of digital contents. Meanwhile, other cloud services developed with emphasis on providing IT infrastructure and applications on model "as service" (for example Salesforce.com, WebEx Connect, Amazon Web Services, etc.). In the last several years these companies created at themselves massive structures of storages as they developed offers of services, entered the new markets and expanded presence geography.

In parallel with expansion of public clouds, many organizations began to unroll own private clouds for applications, calculations and storages of content (archives). Some of these private cloud implementations (the state, research websites, for example) are comparable on the scope and complexity with a public cloud environment while others are less large-scale. Suppliers of cloud services are influenced by five financial and information aspects which direct requirements to storage systems.

According to IDC, treat them:

• sales opportunity of more effective delivery modes to Internet clients of data/applications;

• reduction of level of initial investments into infrastructure (for example, cost reduction and time, connected with deployment new computing and IT infrastructures);

• minimizing of the internal investments into IT infrastructure connected with the "pulsing" or unpredictable workloads;

• decrease and/or redistribution of the current expenses connected with long-term information storage in the form of archives;

• possibility of maintaining almost continuous analysis, in real time, large volumes of information, broad variety of clients, partners and the hardware generated data.

Need of the solution of a broad spectrum of similar requirements, according to analysts of IDC, will cause demand of the companies for access to inexpensive tanks of data warehouses. In addition, the range of additional innovation data translations, security systems and analytics will increase.

Deduction of balance of demand for the inexpensive equipment and simultaneous increase in demand for the advanced software solutions in such areas as storage of object data, automation of multilevel data, processing of Big Data and also improvement of services of archiving will be one of the tasks facing the industry of data warehouses, Villars told and noted that development of technologies of processing and storage of Big Data in the next decade will probably be the most important market for providers of solutions of storages.
