The Citrix company released the first new version of the product VDI-in-a-Box 5 under own brand after acquisition of this product together with Kaviza company in May, 2011. The platform of virtual desktops VDI-in-a-box 5 is intended for medium and small business, proposing the ready-made solution – with its help the small and medium organizations can organize in the shortest possible time providing virtual desktops to the users at reasonable costs.

The product VDI-in-a-Box 5 which is released under the name of Citrix represents the comprehensive VDI solution (VDI – Virtual Desktop Infrastructure – infrastructure of virtual work places). For implementation of Citrix VDI-in-a-Box 5 collective data warehouses and specialized brokers of connections for redistribution of loading are not necessary. Customers can just deploy the ready virtual device on any widespread hypervisor at the choice then a system is completely ready to work. From the technical point of view the new version represents deeply processed version of version 4.1 released in April, 2011 under the name of Kaviza.

From the new features distinguishing the solution Citrix VDI-in-a-Box 5 of former versions, developers select, in particular, support of a hypervisor of Microsoft Hyper-V – ESXi Citrix XenServer and VMware virtualization platforms were supported before. Besides, in the new version of the solution VDI-in-a-Box the expanded set of the masters covering practically all routine tasks on management and maintenance of infrastructure of virtual work places is implemented.

Special attention in Citrix VDI-in-a-Box 5 is deserved by support of advanced technology of Citrix HDX – this technology provides the increased image quality in virtual desktops and economy of traffic during the active work of users. In particular, due to Citrix HDX support the new solution of Citrix VDI-in-a-Box 5 supports stream audio delivery in real time - it is extremely important factor during the work with voice applications from virtual desktops as the delay of a voice is minimized.

Also the Citrix HDX technology provides considerable compression of traffic when using webcams – for example, at teleconferences or shooting of clients in bank at filing of applications on the credit. Besides, redirection of graphic commands provides the general decrease in traffic on delivery of the image of a desktop for 33% in comparison with traditional technologies without compression. At last, the Citrix HDX technology provides intellectual local rendering of a virtual desktop, shifting a part of graphic functions from the server to local computing resources of the machine where work with a virtual desktop is conducted.

In addition to delivery of virtual desktops in high resolution due to Citrix HDX technology, the VDI-in-a-Box 5 system offers the highest compatibility level – access to desktops is supported on more than one billion client devices where the client software module of Citrix Receiver for loading and execution of virtual desktops works. Perhaps, 5 the simplicity of construction excluding more than 60% of the components characteristic of traditional corporate VDI infrastructure is with a main advantage of VDI-in-a-Box. In particular, the customer does not need servers of management and Storage Area Network: all tasks are undertaken by network of normal inexpensive servers with directly the connected drives. The convenient module of remote control GoToManage Remote Support in setup and application provides secure access to all VDI-in-a-Box servers via the Internet from machines running Windows/Linux, from the machines Mac and iPad tablets.
