The IBM corporation announced in October, 2011 the new network intelligent analytical device designed to help communication service providers (CSP) with the analysis of large volumes (up to petabyte level) network data and data on clients in read minutes. The new device gives to CSP providers an opportunity to transform the data to information, valuable, applicable in practice, for the purpose of improvement of service quality, involvement of new clients and economy of costs and also monitoring of shared state of network.
Communication service providers are faced by difficult problems of increase in income and cost reduction in conditions when clients demand more information and capacious products and services. Smartphones, tablet computers and other mobile devices which popularity grows at explosive rates allow consumers to do very many things, being outdoors and office, from check of a weather forecast before watching movies, from placement of messages in social networks Twitter or Facebook before loading and listening of music. This digital way of life of consumers generates constantly growing amounts of data for viewing stream video, for games and communication in on-line social communities, and this information avalanche lays down a heavy burden on network resources.
The IBM Netezza Network Analytics Accelerator device is designed to solve this problem, providing the analytical platform which communication service providers can use for performance improvement of networks and obtaining information on consumer experience of the clients. Using the new device, CSP providers can investigate "up and down" data for assessment of tariff plans and conditions of contracts in terms of profitability; for understanding of how each client uses service packages of a voice communication and data transmission, and how it influences network resources; and also for identification of new market opportunities through studying of how clients use different types of phones.
"Consumers become more and more experienced and exacting in the choice of service providers and methods of an information access. The matter is that today they have for this purpose so many opportunities, more than ever earlier — Scott Stainken, the general manager of division of IBM Global Telecommunications Industry emphasized. — Receiving comprehensive idea of clients, their consumer experience and their digital way of life using analytical solutions of IBM means for CSP провадеров that they will be able to distribute more optimum network resources and to create more address services. It at the same time both difficult tasks, and attractive business opportunities. Those from communication service providers who use analytics today will get obvious competitive advantage tomorrow".
The majority of offers on analytics of network data support only the specific systems or network devices, save certain information during the short time frames and have limited opportunities according to the reporting and severe conditions of data access. It limits capability of communication service providers in determination of standard behavioral models and trends and also in polls and a research of consumer opinions "on the fly". The analytical solutions IBM Netezza allow to browse all data on clients and accelerate process of the operational express analysis.
Using the IBM Netezza device, CSP providers can prevent failures in network functioning and create target marketing programs. So, for example, the users browsing on certain phone models the sports Websites between the determined periods of peak loads on network can switch to other service provider or remain with the current provider according to the behavioural profiles generated by marketing actions.
According to the publication of the International Telecommunication Union (International Telecommunications Union, ITU), the number of smartphones in the world will grow from today's 500 million pieces to nearly 2 billion by 2015. In February, 2011 ITU reported that users of smartphones consume five times more information resources, than users of normal mobile phones.
The XO Communications company, service provider and solutions of broadband communication, uses the IBM Netezza device for the purpose of extraction of the necessary information from data on clients for the best idea of consumer opportunities, addictions and impressions. The predictive analytics of IBM SPSS allows to analyze and estimate data on clients, and the software of IBM Cognos for the business analysis gives the chance to personnel of XO Communications more effectively to interact with data.
"Capability analyze data on clients gives us competitive advantage which is expressed in decrease in indicators of outflow of clients and improvement of indicators of customer retention — Jamey Molsbee, the chief executive of XO Communications noted. — The business intelligence of IBM helps us to expect changes in the industry and to advance them presently when consumers demand more and more functionally rich and dynamic opportunities from the mobile devices".
IBM Netezza devices are the systems optimized to certain workloads and based on IBM BladeCenter technology. They allow to analyze petabyte amounts of data quicker than the competing solutions, and at the considerable smaller total cost of ownership.
