In Presidential library of B.N. Yeltsin in St. Petersburg in November, 2011 the presentation of the pilot Xerox BookSurf Suite platform – own development of Xerox intended for implementation of services of the publication of unique electronic content of libraries, museums and archives took place. The software solution Xerox was presented within the scientific and practical conference "Cultural heritage: integration of resources in digital space".
On October 27, 2011 in Presidential library of B.N. Yeltsin issues of development of unified electronic environment of formation, storage and access to digital information resources were discussed. Representatives of administrations of territorial subjects of the Russian Federation, heads of regional libraries, federal and regional archives, representatives of the Union of the museums of Russia, federal and regional universities and also the companies cooperating with Presidential library in the development areas and implementations of technologies of integration of information resources and providing access to them for Internet users participated in a conference.
During the conference there took place demonstration of the pilot Xerox BookSurf Suite platform on the example of an internal information network of Presidential library. The project aimed at readers of digital libraries and Internet users allows to implement commercial services of providing unique content – books and other materials – in an electronic or paper form.
As a part of the solution the special module which traces all necessary conditions of interaction with owners of content contains. Now pilot operation of the platform on which completion implementation of a full range of services will take place is carried out.
In the long term the high school digital printing houses providing standards of technology "to printing on demand" that will allow to minimize the cost and time of execution of orders for the publication of content in the most remote regions of the country will be able to take part in the project. At the moment in the territory of Russia more than 70 such printing houses work.
Presidential library of B.N. Yeltsin - one of key project participants "National Library Resource (NLR)", the access to digital funds of the Russian libraries created in 2010 within the State program of the Russian Federation "Information society (2011 — 2020)" and directed to expansion taking into account the interests of readers, libraries and owners. The purpose of this project is creation of a uniform electronic book-depository available to all visitors of digital libraries regardless of their location and also in settlement of the relations with owners of literary and historical works.
