Svyaznoy Group (Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM 2012))

The Svyaznoy group created a private cloud based on solutions of Microsoft. The project was implemented based on Microsoft Hyper-V Cloud and Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager technologies. The business management system and other application solutions were transferred to a cloud environment.

"Fast business development of Svyaznoy group and, as a result, increase in demand for IT services required permanent purchases of servers that, on the one hand, increased capital costs, and with another – complicated administration of the server park, – Sizov Evgeny, the head of IT of Management of Svyaznoy group tells. – We made the decision to construct a private cloud based on Microsoft Hyper-V Cloud. This implementation completely met our expectations: we managed to save on purchase and operation of new servers, to release labor resources of IT department and to increase efficiency of his employees".

The project was implemented by forces of employees of IT department of the company in only two months and brought notable results. It was succeeded to reduce a downtime of servers by 30%, and consumption of the electric power by them – for 15%. There was a scaling option of services, at the same time time of putting into operation of new servers decreased up to 20-30 minutes (earlier on this transaction 3-4 hours were required).

I am sure that in the future the company will estimate also other advantages of cloud services of Microsoft".

The choice of technologies of Microsoft by Svyaznoy company for creation of a private cloud (means for a virtuatsization of Hyper-V R2 and means for control of Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 virtual machines) was based that they met all qualifying standards and differed in more profitable cost in comparison with other products in the market. Besides, solutions of Microsoft were familiar to the employees of IT department who already had positive experience of use of management tools of Microsoft System Center, for example, at service normal "not virtualized" servers running Windows Server 2008.

Within the project the private cloud for selection of test infrastructures to developers was also created. Thanks to the private cloud and a self-service portal created on the basis of the solution Self-Service Portal 2.0 entering Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager, the staff of department of development quickly receives now the service (virtual machine) demanded by him, without caring for where physically there are resources providing this service and as they should be configured. Developers can create virtual machines on the basis of templates, start, reboot and stop them. Also via the portal it is possible to save the instant picture of the virtual machine for fast resumption of work with it or to configure its connection to a remote desktop. At the same time in Self-Service Portal 2.0 it is displayed what volume of resources is selected to this developer for creation of virtual machines.
