History

2022: Russia to train Syrian IT professionals

On October 17, 2022, on behalf of Governor Pavel Malkov, the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Information Technologies and Communications of the region, Andrei Ulyanov, as part of the Russian government delegation, took part in a meeting in Damascus on the development of comprehensive Russian-Syrian cooperation.

The head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Information Technologies and Communications Andrei Ulyanov and the director of the Institute of International Activities of the Russian State Technical University Natalya Yesenina met with representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) to discuss issues of bilateral scientific and educational cooperation.

Ryazan region and Syria agreed to train Syrian IT specialists

During the meeting, the parties discussed an agreement on the development of relations between Syrian and Ryazan universities. In particular, projects on distance learning of Syrian IT specialists and the organization of a remote physics and mathematics school for Syrian children were detailed. The participants discussed plans for holding summer schools for IT students, organizing joint scientific publications of Syrian and Ryazan scientists in authoritative journals and mutual examination of scientific papers.

As reported on the website of the regional government, the projects will be implemented on the basis of universities that have concluded agreements with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Region, the Ministry of Education of the Ryazan Region and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science of the SAR.

At the end Ministry of Digital Science Russia of June 2022, the delegation visited Syria on an official visit, in which the parties discussed cooperation in the field of ICT. During the meeting:

  • identified promising areas of cooperation in the field of digitalization of public administration, cybersecurity, telecommunications and training of industry personnel;
  • discussed the development of media cooperation and the implementation of joint projects, including in the field of professional training of journalists;
  • discussed the main areas of bilateral cooperation and planned a number of meetings between Russian and Syrian companies on the implementation of joint IT projects.[1]
