CloudBand

The Alcatel-Lucent company develops the platform of cloud computing CloudBand which will allow telecom operators to use most fully possibilities of the networks to provide the guaranteed performance.

Operators will be able to create own software on this platform and to offer the companies cloud services. The software tools analyzing various operating conditions and user requirements for search of optimal adjustments for a certain application in certain time are a part of the platform.

To meet the requirements of agreements on the service level, certain packets of the top priority, ensuring more high-quality service, reservation of a certain part of bandwidth or use of the server in a certain place can be necessary.

The core of CloudBand is formed by the CloudBand Management System system, it is based on the algorithms developed in Bell Labs (the legendary research center Lucent and AT&T). A system considers such factors as load of servers, degree of load of communication channels and a delay to guarantee the satisfaction of agreements on the service level.

Other CloudBand component is CloudBand Node — a set of computing tools, storage systems, virtualizations and managements of a cloud which is established on all hardware systems in network supporting a cloud.

According to forecasts of Alcatel, operators will use the networks for deployment of CloudBand Node in proximity from termination points of their networks, in this case they will work as well as local capacities for caching of content that will give to the enterprises the chance quickly to get access to cloud resources.

Besides, operators will be able to use resources of an open cloud — where there are no specialized means for customer service or where use of this cloud costs cheaper.

Using the same cloud which is constructed for providing services on a subscription, operators can virtualize own infrastructure and provide such standard services as a voice communication, video conference and exchange of the SMS. Now for these purposes the selected hardware is used, as a result on deployment of new service are required considerable time and means. The support on a cloud simplifies a task, besides, scaling of service due to use of the virtualized resources is facilitated.

Alcatel is going to offer without CloudBand restrictions to operators in the first half of next year, after test operation at the beginning of a year.
