2025: Ministry of Industry and Trade complained about holes in HP printers

At the end of October 2025, it became known that experts Fplus HP Xerox from a Russian company discovered critical vulnerabilities in printing equipment and through which attackers can obtain data from connected computers and from processed documents. A letter describing the problems has been sent to. Ministry of Industry and Trade RUSSIAN FEDERATION

According to SecPost, citing Fplus materials, experts have studied a number of popular models of printers and multifunctional devices (MFPs) manufactured by HP and Xerox. Various hardware and software vulnerabilities have been identified in all these products. Holes, in particular, open up the possibility of unauthorized access to the web control interface and other services running on the device. In addition, attackers can steal confidential data.

One of the vulnerabilities found, allegedly, allows, without the owner's knowledge, to change the printer configuration and redirect user credentials to a server controlled by attackers using the LDAP directory access protocol. Another flaw concerns the user's address book: it makes it possible to change the IP address of the SMB or FTP server, as well as intercept credentials.

Fplus also found that HP printing equipment can transmit information to several IP addresses without notifying the user. Some are owned by major marketplaces, including Amazon, while others could not be identified as belonging. Experts also could not find out which sets of information are broadcast by printers and MFPs. At the same time, Fplus research says that HP can remotely monitor its devices and block printing when using a non-original cartridge.[1]
