2018: Record growth — +16.4% in dollars and +11.8% in euro (IDC)

In 2018 market size external storage systems (DWH) in the countries of Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) grew record-breaking — by 16.4% in dollar expression and for 11.8% in euro. The data of analysts published on March 12, 2019 demonstrate to it IDC.

Experts consider the main drivers of a segment of external DWH updating of IT infrastructure, demand shift in the market of DWH towards server solutions and fast expansion of the data centers used for public clouds.

Besides, the growing interest in the equipment based on solid state drives affects. The Segment of storage systems which cornerstone drives only on a flash memory (All-Flash) are in 2018 grew by a third and made 35% in a total amount of the market of DWH in the region.

The largest producers DWH in EMEA region given to IDC

Implementation of hybrid products (when solid state drives are used together with hard drives) grew by several percent. The share of this segment reached 45.1%.

At the same time demand for the equipment created only on the basis of HDD continues to decrease. Sales of such disk arrays in 2018 decreased by 18.4%.

The Western European market of external DWH showed growth by 10.1% in dollars and for 13.6% in euro. The essential role in this rise was played by the solutions All-Flash which deliveries jumped by 25%.

Still expenses on storages showed high stability in the conditions of the political and economic instability striking the region. At the same time the investments performed as a result of digital transformation did not suffer — the analyst of IDC Silvia Kosso says. — The companies update the data centers for a new wave of the IT transformation based on workloads of AI and integration from a core to a cloud, implementing new technologies, such as NAFA or NVME-AFA to take advantage of big consolidation of processes which such arrays provide.[1]

CEMA (without Western Europe)

2012: In Eastern Europe the market of storage systems blossomed

The market of the equipment of external data storage in the region of CEMA to which IDC carries the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and also the Middle East and Africa, at the end of 2012 showed the most impressive growth rates, said in[2] of the company of May, 2013.

Despite the difficulties which arose at vendors in the fourth quarter the annual growth rate of the market was two-digit and was 11.6% in comparison with 2011. In absolute values revenue of vendors reached $2.014 billion, and cumulative power – 1189 Petabyte. The last indicator in comparison with 2011 grew by 33.9%.

The largest equipment suppliers of storage in the market of CEMA at the end of 2012 became in decreasing order of a share: EMC, IBM, HP, NetApp, Hitachi and Dell. Good results of EMC managed to be achieved at the expense of a series of the profitable transactions including in Russia, the report says. Success of IBM is based on successful sales of a line of Storwize. In general most vendors showed the two-digit growth of revenue in 2012.

According to Pavel Roland, the analyst of IDC, 2011 passed in CEMA region under the sign of high-end of systems, 2012, on the contrary, - under the sign of midrange of solutions. 55% of market size in 2012 were the share of the last. Experts also state steady demand for storage systems from large and medium-sized enterprises and also public sector. Investments of a public sector in the CIS countries were especially active.

2011: Third quarter

The market of external corporate systems of data storage in the third quarter continues the successful development with a trend to 25.8% a year, despite adverse economic conditions in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and CEMA.

According to a quarterly research of the market of external disk storage systems of IDC company - Disk Storage Systems Quarterly Tracker, in the third quarter 2011 the capacity of storages year on year grew by 68.6% and reached 216.7 PB while revenue of vendors reached $424.2 million that makes 17.9% of dynamics of revenue growth in comparison with similar quarter 2010. Both indicators slowed down growth, showing a trend of transition to the "normal" rate of market development after renewal period of economy.

Small and medium business increased demand for storage systems, however, not so actively, predictably. It is connected with weight of the economic measures applied by many regional authorities. Nevertheless, the business sector remained the strongest investor in storage systems, despite expense reduction according to the market.

According to Pavel Roland (Pavel Roland), the head on researches of storage systems of IDC company in CEMA region, cloud storage systems became more demanded, especially in Central and Eastern Europe as SMP (small business entities) began to consider seriously cloud services an alternative to traditional deployments in IT markets of the Czech Republic, Romania, Russia, etc. "This trend promoted growth of solutions of the storage systems of the middle class developed for "clouds", - the analyst noted.

The companies EMC also HP increased the shares of income from external systems of storage to 37.0% and 19.8% respectively, thanks to large deals in telecommunication and bank sectors of some largest markets of the region of CEMA in comparison with the second quarter 2011. EMC managed to implement advantage using the innovation - protocols of VNX/VNXe. IBM took the third place from 17.3%, having receded on one position on comparison with the second quarter.

Marina Kostova, the analyst of IDC on storage systems in the region of CEMA noted the surge in archiving of data which began to have an impact on the market of storage systems directly in 2011 and especially in the third quarter. "Systems with the general control interface implementing simultaneous blocking of the file and/or access object in storage system it is exclusive means of a hardware platform or the integrated architecture grew five times quicker, in annual terms, than the solutions which are not allowing application of several protocols of data storage at the same time".
