Iomega Storcenter IX2 Network Storage

The Iomega corporation announced in January, 2012 storage system of Iomega® StorCenter™ ix2 Network Storage – the advanced two-disk network device. It is offered in several configurations and is developed especially for sharing of content and data protection and also for cloud computing and applications of video surveillance in small business, in the working groups, remote offices and at the enterprises with the distributed structure.

EMC of a corporate class founded on technology of storage, new network system of Iomega StorCenter ix2 has capacity up to 6 Tbyte * and is intended for work in networks of the organizations of small and medium business, the distributed enterprises or at remote offices where computers of the PC, Mac and Linux platform are used. The new StorCenter ix2 model offers a set of the advanced opportunities for business usually unavailable to the small organizations, including the solution of video surveillance, ready to work, with support to five IP video cameras. Users can also select option of cloud data backup using the Mozy, Amazon S3 or EMC Atmos services offered by service providers or the revolutionary Iomega Personal Cloud technology providing unsurpassed simplicity and a variety of opportunities of sharing and data protection without monthly payment or service contracts.

Configurations of the new Iomega StorCenter ix2 Network Storage system

The new storage system of Iomega StorCenter ix2 Network Storage with two compartments for disks offers flexibility of the choice of three different models: to install to the diskless version allowing users and trading partners in the device disk storage modules according to their requirements to storage system and price preferences that is especially valuable in the conditions of the shortage of hard drives after a flood in Thailand; versions with one disk (capacity 1, 2 or 3 Tbytes) that gives freedom of choice at the subsequent increase in capacity of storage; and also completely completed device with two disks (with a general capacity of 2, 4 or 6 Tbyte) for data protection using mirroring in RAID and applications of other means of network systems of storage with several disk storage modules.

As expected, all three configurations of the new Iomega StorCenter ix2 Network Storage system – partially, fully completed and without disks – will be available around the world since February.

The compact model of StorCenter ix2 on two disk storage modules is developed for the centralized storage and backup of corporate files using the whole range of advanced means and uses the process of initial setup which is not requiring installation with CD. The software is already loaded into the device therefore its preparation for work takes read minutes. The web interface supports 17 languages. StorCenter ix2 NAS uses the popular software of EMC LifeLine™ – specially developed operating environment on the basis of Linux which uses the separate technologies of storage of EMC of a world class usually available only in the systems of the corporate level.

Depending on a configuration (quantity of the set disks) the StorCenter ix2 system offers numerous opportunities of data protection and the developed corporate assets, including the following:

• RAID 1 (mirroring) – data protection in completely completed two-disk configuration.
• The disk storage modules replaced by the user for ensuring continuity of business processes and disaster recovery of data.
• Automatic adjustment of the software of backup of Iomega QuikProtect for the simplified creation of backup copies from the PC computers and Mac.

Valuable opportunities of video surveillance in StorCenter ix2

Video surveillance in and/or outside of the premises is absolutely necessary requirement in many organizations today – whether it be separate company or the distributed organization with several offices. Unlike restrictions of standard approach to video surveillance using DVR devices, the storage system of StorCenter ix2 has economic advantages of constantly functioning and available network storage to installations with a small number of cameras.

The StorCenter ix2 system provides the built-in support to five UPnP network cameras (universal of a Plug and Play) of production Axis®, Bosch® or Panasonic®. IP cameras of video surveillance can save video directly on the StorCenter ix2 system without the aid of the selected PC, and users have an opportunity to quickly reproduce the saved video or to watch video from surveillance cameras in real time.

The StorCenter ix2 system codes video in MPEG-4 format. Users can configure removal of the stored files of video according to the schedule or after exceeding of given size of the file. Besides, StorCenter ix2 offers the built-in service Axis Video Hosting Service (AVHS) for local or 'cloud' control of video cameras and storages of videos. It is possible to involve also downloaded software of management of video service of MindTree® SecureMind.
