The MobilityFlow company announced at the beginning of 2012 TransTorrent exit - the expansion for Internet browsers giving the chance to lift the speed of downloading of files from any websites to a maximum.
TransTorrent allows the user to get all advantages of the peer-to-peer BitTorrent protocol when downloading from the normal website. The product is implemented in the form of expansion for the browser. It works as follows: if at the user it is set to TransTorrent, then when clicking he checks links to downloading in the browser whether there is a torrent file corresponding to it. Having detected a torrent file, TransTorrent begins downloading using the BitTorrent-client. Actually, TransTorrent developers gave the chance to use all advantages of the peer-to-peer protocol (which was traditionally applied to downloading of non-licensed content) in the legal purposes.
The BitTorrent protocol means loading of the file not from the only server, and from several sources - from computers of all users which already downloaded it or are in process of downloading. When using such scheme speed of downloading is limited only to access rate which is provided by Internet service provider.
Installation of expansion allows to solve the known problem - "the file is more popular, the longer it it is necessary to wait". In the traditional scheme all users download the file from one Web server; respectively, speed for each of them falls in proportion to growth of number of the people who are at the same time downloading the file. When using the BitTorrent protocol, on the contrary, the more people loaded the file, the speed will be higher.
In addition to acceleration of downloading of files for users, TransTorrent gives advantages to those who spread demanded data. Suggesting to set TransTorrent before downloading of files, they will be able to give, first, to users an opportunity as fast as possible to make loading, and secondly - to lower load of the server and to partially release an Internet channel.
The most popular browsers are supported: FireFox, Google Chrome.
It is possible to install the extension from the official site: http://www.transtorrent.com.
For downloading it is also required µTorrent or other torrent client.
Researchers from the Minnesota university and Wellesley College studied statistics of a box office of popular Hollywood movies after distribution of file exchange networks based on the BitTorrent protocol. They did not find the evidence of influence of distribution of BitTorrent on a box office of movies to the USA. But losses from piracy are present at foreign rolling of the Hollywood movies, but not piracy in itself, and delay factor of release of the movie in rolling in other countries in comparison with the USA appears a decisive factor. Sometimes the movie appears several weeks later, and sometimes — months. This delay leads at least to 7% to reduction of charges in comparison with what they would be without piracy distribution of movies. Delays arise on three basic reasons. First, many movie theaters still use film, but not digital projectors. Copies on a film cost much and movie theaters should use them in turn. Secondly, in the USA there are more movie theaters, than in other countries so many foreign audience just has no access to cash desk. And at last, an essential part of an advertizing campaign of the movie is connected with performances of stars at premieres, and they cannot be everywhere at the same time.
