The mobile application of World Bank DataFinder developed by the Russian company "Prognoz" by request of the World Bank is recognized the most popular mobile application of this international financial institution.
Such conclusions were drawn on the basis of statistics of loadings with App Store: the number of users of DataFinder 2.5 in 2011 appeared more than 25 thousand that exceeds a total indicator according to all other applications placed on App Store by the World Bank.
DataFinder provides mobile access to statistical information on economy, health care, trade, environment protection and other spheres which contains in the basis for data of the World Bank – "Indicators of world development" (World Development Indicators).
The application allows to visualize data with the help of tables, charts and cards, to send results of analytical requests on e-mail and to publish in social networks. According to the World Bank, the main users of the application are analysts of the government and commercial structures, journalists of social and political and business media, the CEO of Forecast Dmitry Andrianov said.
History of creation
As Sergey Lebedinets, the head of the international projects of Prognoz company told TAdviser, application programming of World Bank DataFinder began in 2010, to a release of the first version of iPad. For Prognoz it was the first experience in development of solutions for mobile devices.
The version of DataFinder 2.0 worked only in the online mode, loading data from the web service of the World Bank developed by Prognoz. As visualization tools were used HTML table and pictures of diagrams, they formed on the server by means of the platform of Prognoz and further were transferred to the mobile device. As Sergey Lebedinets told TAdviser, the head of the international projects of Prognoz company, World Bank DataFinder also has versions for platforms: Android (phones and tablet PCs starting with version 2.2) and BlackBerry OS.
The convenience of the DataFinder tools led to creation on its basis of the customized thematic applications devoted to education, climate change, development of the African continent.

3.0
In DataFinder 3.0 essentially new functionality is put, implementation for three platforms is planned at once. At the moment the new version of DataFinder 3.0 is laid already out on AppStore Apple. DataFinder 3.0 will be available to Android and Blackberry in several weeks – the customer holds final testing.
The new native version locates the Advanced Query block allowing to build "on the fly" requests to service of data, to display data on interactive charts and cards, there was a functionality providing integration with popular social networks, support of multilingualism (the English, French, Spanish and Chinese languages) is implemented, offline mode appeared – now the user can work with the application in the airplane or other place where there is no Internet. Besides, the application is configured now on public API of the World Bank from where reads not only data and contents of reference books, but also metadata on indicators and the countries.
