After merge to "URSA-bank" owns 54.1% of stocks of the joint credit institution working under a brand MDM Bank, and slightly less than 50% of SUEK.

Takes the 18th place in the rating of the Russian-language version of Forbes "The richest businessmen of Russia — 2011"[1]. Sergey Popov's fortune is estimated in 7.9 billion dollars.

Biography

Education

In 1993 graduated from the Ural polytechnical institute (The Ural state technical university) in "industrial heat-and-power engineeering".

Career

In 1993 — the partner of the Uralo-Sibirsky Commercial and Industrial Company (USCIC) trading in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, in particular products of Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works.

In 1994-1996 was a partner and the Commercial director in Prodkontrakt Company LLC.

In 1996 acted as the cofounder of "MDM commercial and industrial company".

In 2000 became one of founders and developers of strategy of MDM industrial group and was a part of Board of Directors of group. Besides, was a part of Board of Directors of RAO UES of Russia, JSC Pipe Metallurgical Co., JSC EuroChem, JSC SUEK.

In 2006 divorced the partner in "MDM industrial group" Andrey Melnichenko. Popov got MDM Bank, Melnichenko — EuroChem. The coal-mining company SUEK remains in a joint property so far.

In August, 2009 was a part of Board of Directors of JSC MDM Bank. Now is the vice-chairman of Board of Directors of Bank.

Buying up of industrial assets within strategy for expansion of spheres of influence of the MDM Group did not do without the conflicts, sometimes there are even enough tough.
