Louvre automated production processes using IBM

Customers: Museum Louvre

Contractors: SQLI Group
Product: IBM Maximo

Project date: 2009/04  - 2009/09

The well-known Louvre in Paris is considered one of the most visited in Europe – last year the exhibits provided in it could see over 8.8 million tourists. The museum founded in the XVIII century managed to become a home for thousands of works of art. As some of them conduct the origin with prehistoric times, and the most "recent" exhibits are dated 1848, for preserving of a collected collection in proper condition, Louvre is constantly visited by different teams of specialists. In a year the number of such visits reaches 65 thousand.

The new management of the museum set the task to provide simultaneous access of visitors to most galleries on the area over 60 thousand sq.m. (it is one of the biggest museums in the world). The software solution of asset management IBM Maximo helps to rationalize the inconceivable number of production processes in an architecture monument. It allows to improve service quality of tourists, on the one hand, and to increase efficiency of operating activities in real time, with another.

Now it is difficult to imagine it, but still quite recently the staff of Louvre monitored all actions of hundreds of contractors (separate SLA is signed with each of which) using paper documents. Now in the museum uniform DBMS and the distributed repository for service staff is created. Implementation of Tivoli Maximo Asset Management 6.2.1 was performed by the French business partner of IBM – SQLI (Structured Query Language Injection).

The solution allows to visualize planning processes, cleaning of galleries, placements of exposures and the specialized equipment – conditioners, heaters, elevators, light, the systems of locking over 2.5 thousand doors. In addition software contains instruments of forecasting of upcoming events on service of the resources and systems which are under authority of the museum.

For each single object of art of software IBM Maximo allows to conduct the history of the made works. At a stage of initialization of a request for holding the planned or non-staff actions, there is an automatic comparison of a dress to the list of available contractors (depending on specialization). Further there is a preliminary miscalculation of the budget, approval of the estimate and order placement taking into account its priority. It is necessary to tell, numerous contractors in turn too use IBM Maximo – it helps to find more simply "common language" at tendering process.
