The Federal State Budgetary Institution of Higher Education "Perm National Research Polytechnic University" was created in 1953 by Order of the Ministry of Culture of the USSR of July 18, 1953 No. 1275 as the Molotov Mining Institute.

2024: Revenue growth by 25% to RUB 6.88 billion
In May 2025, the Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNIPU) announced the achievement of record revenue in 2024 in the amount of 6.88 billion rubles against 5.5 billion rubles a year earlier.
A significant increase in the financial indicators of PNIPU is associated with the active development of research activities and an increase in the volume of contractual work for industrial enterprises in the region and the country. In the structure of the university's income, the share of revenues from research and development work reached 42%.
Rector of PNIPU Anatoly Tashkinov stressed that the university significantly expanded cooperation with large industrial companies, which made it possible to attract additional funding for the implementation of promising scientific projects. According to him, a significant part of the funds was obtained thanks to the participation of the university in federal programs to support education and science.
An important factor in revenue growth was the increase in the number of international students studying at the university. In 2024, their number exceeded 2,500 people from 56 countries of the world. Revenues from the export of educational services amounted to about ₽820 million, which is 23% more compared to 2023.
Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation of PNIPU Vladimir Korotaev noted that the university is actively developing priority areas of research in the field of aerospace technologies, chemical technology, materials science, robotics and artificial intelligence. The development of Perm scientists is in high demand from enterprises of the military-industrial complex and civil industries.
In 2024, Perm Polytechnic significantly strengthened its position as a regional center for scientific competencies. The university received 115 patents for inventions and utility models. The amount of funds raised through grants from various scientific foundations amounted to ₽430 million.[1]
